Its appeal depends on whether you enjoy exploring under pressure: scarce supplies, dangerous encounters and survival systems give the Zone its pull, but can make progress frustrating for players who want a faster, more guided shooter.

In Cabral’s account, survival is woven into exploration rather than held apart as a separate mode. Ammunition and supplies are scarce; inventory capacity forces choices about what to carry; and hunger, thirst, bleeding, radiation, and wear on weapons and gear add costs to each trip. Mutants, anomalies and human enemies make the route itself uncertain. That combination gives the atmosphere mechanical weight: choosing where to go also means judging what risks and resources you can afford.
What the review says works
Cabral praises the game’s atmosphere and the way its survival-focused open world sustains tension. The Zone’s appeal is not simply that it looks dangerous; the need to manage resources and hazards makes exploration feel consequential. That is the game’s central strength for players who want to roam, prepare and adapt rather than move from one straightforward firefight to the next.

#1 Best Overall
“Stalker 2 isn’t for the faint of heart, its refreshing mix of survival-focused first-person action and an incredibly atmospheric, nerve-fraying open-world allows it to stand out from the post-apocalyptic fragger pack,” Cabral wrote in TechRadar’s review, published November 21, 2025. How hard is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
Cabral’s main caveat is the difficulty. He says the survival systems are strict and that even the normal setting can feel steep. A fight may seem unfair, particularly if you have gone a long time without saving. Durability and encumbrance also add pressure between encounters, so the challenge is not limited to combat.

- Battle against over 50 players simultaneously in a massive multiplayer playground—over 20 players on Xbox One.
- Compete in an all-out mass start race—collide, grind, and fight your way to the finish
- Customize your character to show off your style to your friends or show up the competition.
- Bike, ski, snowboard, or wingsuit through a seamless open world in Career mode or multiplayer events.
- Go wild on the heights of iconic US national parks like Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.
This makes the game a better match for players who welcome a demanding, exploratory survival experience than for anyone seeking a relaxed or tightly directed shooter. If setbacks and resource management sound like part of the appeal, the same pressure that may frustrate other players is central to the experience Cabral praises.
