In March 2023, Samsung promoted a Fortnite Creative island called Samsung SmartCity—also referred to as Samsung Island—where players could tour a virtual showroom and hunt for a virtual Galaxy S23 in a hide-and-seek minigame. The island code was 8526-6648-9508; the map is now listed as disabled, so access is historical rather than a working instruction.
What actually appeared in Fortnite?
The Galaxy S23 was a virtual product inside Samsung’s branded Creative island. It served three roles:
- A displayed phone in a showroom featuring the Galaxy S23 range and other Samsung products.
- The hidden object in the Fun Game Quest minigame.
- The basis for fictional abilities inspired by S23 marketing features.
It was not a conventional Fortnite item, a purchasable skin, a playable Samsung character, or equipment usable in standard Battle Royale. The in-game phone was also not a functional simulation of the physical S23.
Samsung’s showroom included QN90B gaming TVs, lifestyle televisions, The Freestyle projector and Odyssey monitors alongside the phones, according to its regional announcement at Samsung Newsroom Mexico.

#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
How Samsung SmartCity worked
Fun Game Quest
Players entered a Samsung-themed city and searched for a concealed virtual Galaxy S23. Finding it was only part of the objective: the player had to keep possession of the phone until the round ended. Samsung described the mode as a hide-and-seek-style game in its Latin American announcement.
Feature-inspired abilities
The island translated product features into game mechanics rather than changing Fortnite’s wider rules:

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
- Zoom: helped players see distant areas or objects more clearly.
- Nightography: improved visibility in dark sections of the map.
- Knox: provided a defensive or protective advantage.
These were fictional Creative-map effects inspired by Samsung terminology, not capabilities that an S23 owner could carry into other Fortnite modes. SamMobile reported the same basic mechanics and island code.
When did it launch?
Samsung said the updated island and Galaxy S23-focused showroom would activate on March 3, 2023. Its Latin American newsroom post was dated March 7, while secondary coverage from Phandroid appeared on March 8. The March 3 date is the announced activation date, not the publication date of every regional report.

How players accessed it—and why those steps no longer work
The original instructions were:
- Install Fortnite on a compatible smartphone or PC.
- Open Fortnite’s island or map search.
- Search for Samsung SmartCity, or enter island code 8526-6648-9508.
- Select the Samsung Creative experience.
Those are historical instructions. The current listing for 8526-6648-9508 on Fortnite.GG marks the island as disabled and not playable. Owning a Galaxy S23 was not established as a requirement: Samsung’s March instructions referred to Fortnite on a smartphone or PC, not only a Samsung phone.
Was this an Epic Games collaboration?
It is more accurate to call the map a Samsung-created and Samsung-promoted Fortnite Creative experience. Samsung Brazil explicitly said the island was independently created in Fortnite Creative and was not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Epic Games in its regional newsroom notice. That wording does not support describing it as an Epic-administered event or official Battle Royale crossover.
Why put a phone in a game?
The activation made Samsung’s product language interactive. Instead of placing a logo on a wall, the island let visitors walk through a showroom, search for the promoted device and experience game effects that suggested zoom, low-light photography and security. Fortnite Creative also gave Samsung a navigable branded environment soon after the Galaxy S23 series launched in February 2023.
Rank #4
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
That is Samsung’s broader “metaverse” marketing framing; technically, the experience was a user-accessible Fortnite Creative island. Its temporary availability also shows the trade-off: a branded world can be more participatory than a conventional advertisement, but it can disappear when the island is disabled.
Do not confuse it with the later S23 Island
Samsung ran more than one Fortnite activation. The SmartCity experience used 8526-6648-9508. A later Brazilian promotion referred to a separate S23 Island with code 5196-2860-3210, documented by Samsung Newsroom Brazil. The two codes should not be treated as one continuous map or as evidence that the original SmartCity island remains online.

What the headline does—and does not—mean
| Question | Accurate answer |
|---|---|
| Was the S23 in Fortnite? | Yes, as a virtual object in Samsung’s Creative island. |
| Was it a Battle Royale item? | No. |
| Could players buy an S23 skin? | No such skin is established by this activation. |
| Did an S23 improve Fortnite performance? | The campaign does not establish that; hardware performance is a separate question. |
| Can the original map be played now? | Fortnite.GG currently lists it as disabled. |
The Galaxy S23’s Fortnite appearance was therefore a time-limited Samsung marketing world: a showroom, a phone-hunting game and feature-themed abilities inside Creative mode—not a new item in Fortnite’s core game.
