Bloomberg reported on May 20, 2025, citing people familiar with the matter, that Nintendo had turned to Samsung Electronics to help make the Switch 2’s main chips. Nintendo’s public specifications confirm a custom NVIDIA processor but do not name Samsung as the manufacturer. The distinction matters: NVIDIA is identified with the processor design; Samsung’s role is reported chip manufacturing, not a Nintendo-confirmed fact.
Who makes the Nintendo Switch 2 chip?
Nintendo’s official Switch 2 specifications describe the processor as a “Custom processor made by NVIDIA.” They do not identify the company fabricating the chips or disclose a manufacturing process node.

Bloomberg’s May 20, 2025 report, by Yoolim Lee and Takashi Mochizuki, said Nintendo had turned to Samsung Electronics to help make the console’s main chips. Bloomberg attributed the supply-chain information to people familiar with the matter. That is a reported manufacturing arrangement, not a public confirmation from Nintendo.
What are NVIDIA and Samsung each reported to do?
The companies’ roles should not be conflated. Nintendo publicly identifies NVIDIA in the processor specification. Yahoo Tech’s May 21, 2025 summary of Bloomberg’s report describes NVIDIA as the designer. Bloomberg’s report concerns Samsung helping to manufacture the chips. A company that designs a processor and a foundry that fabricates chips have different roles in making the hardware.

The report framed Samsung’s involvement as a win for Samsung Foundry in its competition with TSMC, as well as a way for Nintendo to increase production. No public Nintendo specification cited here confirms the foundry, and the available evidence does not establish a specific Samsung process node, die size, yield, wafer volume, or contract value.
Did Samsung’s reported role mean Nintendo would make 20 million Switch 2s?
No. Bloomberg said the arrangement could help Nintendo scale production enough to sell a higher-than-projected 20 million units by March 2026. That was a forward-looking possibility reported in May 2025—not a confirmed production target, shipment total, or sales result. The figure should not be read as evidence that 20 million consoles were actually made or sold.

What has Nintendo publicly confirmed about Switch 2 hardware?
Nintendo’s specifications provide product details without identifying the chip foundry. They list 256 GB of UFS internal storage, with some capacity reserved for system use. For expansion, the console supports microSD Express cards up to 2 TB. Ordinary microSD cards can be used only to copy screenshots and videos from the original Switch, not as Switch 2 storage expansion.
NVIDIA and Samsung announced broader semiconductor collaboration on October 31, 2025, spanning memory, custom solutions, and foundry services. Their partnership announcement is not confirmation that the announcement itself concerned or verified the Switch 2 chip arrangement.
