Samsung’s warning was genuine when the Galaxy Book4 Edge launched in 2024: some Windows applications, games, websites, security tools and printers could fail on its Snapdragon-powered Windows-on-Arm system. But the warning is not a permanent verdict on Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs. Epic added Windows-on-Snapdragon support for Fortnite in November 2025.
The lasting lesson is broader: check every important application, game, anti-cheat system, driver, plug-in and peripheral before buying an Arm-based Windows laptop. “Copilot+ PC” is not a compatibility guarantee.

What Samsung actually warned buyers about
Samsung’s South Korean product notice for the Galaxy Book4 Edge said that certain applications, games, websites and printers might not work. It directed buyers to compatibility information rather than claiming that the laptop was unusable. The warning applied to a specific Galaxy Book4 Edge configuration and regional product page, but the underlying limitation belongs to Windows on Arm more generally.
The notice covered several different failure types:

- An application may not install or launch.
- An x86 or x64 application may run through emulation but lose performance or features.
- A game may be blocked by anti-cheat software.
- A utility may require an x86 kernel driver that Windows on Arm cannot use.
- A website’s security plug-in may incorrectly report that required software is missing.
- A printer or scanner may lack an Arm64 driver or compatible utility.
Samsung’s warning therefore meant “compatibility varies,” not “every program will fail.”

Why the Galaxy Book4 Edge was different
Traditional Windows laptops generally use x86 processors from Intel or AMD. The Galaxy Book4 Edge uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform, whose processor architecture is Arm. Samsung marketed the laptop as a Copilot+ PC, with Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus hardware and a neural processing unit rated at up to 45 TOPS for AI workloads.

What Microsoft Prism can—and cannot—do
On Snapdragon X Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft’s Prism emulation engine helps Windows run x64 applications that were not compiled for Arm. That is why a large amount of everyday software can work without a native Arm64 release.
Prism emulates application code. It does not automatically provide every low-level component the application might need. Kernel drivers generally require their own Arm64 versions. Virtualization tools, Android emulators, enterprise security products, specialist peripherals and hardware utilities can have additional requirements.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Anti-cheat software is a particularly important example. It can inspect low-level system behavior and cannot always operate correctly just because the game client itself can be emulated. Developers must explicitly support Windows on Arm and test the complete game-and-anti-cheat stack.
Developers can also use technologies such as ARM64EC to combine native Arm64 and emulated 64-bit code in one process, but that requires adoption and testing by the software vendor. Qualcomm describes the approach in its Windows on Snapdragon development guidance.
Fortnite was a real launch problem—but it is no longer a current blanket blocker
The Galaxy Book4 Edge began reaching selected markets on June 18, 2024. At launch, Samsung’s compatibility information and contemporaneous reports listed games including Fortnite among software with compatibility limitations.

That problem was not simply that Fortnite used x64 code. Epic said PC games and their anti-cheat systems required additional work for Snapdragon Windows devices. Epic Online Services anti-cheat support for Windows on Snapdragon arrived on August 12, 2025, and Epic says Fortnite became available on Windows-on-Snapdragon devices on November 3, 2025.
Epic’s later update, dated May 19, 2026, says its services support Windows on Arm except for the social overlay, with support available through EOS SDK 1.19.1 or later. Epic’s current support page says Fortnite is available on Windows 11 Arm-based PCs using Snapdragon processors.
That does not prove that every component of Fortnite is a fully native Arm64 executable. “Available” or “supported” means Epic says it can run on the platform. It is not the same as “native.” The current, accurate description is that Fortnite was initially blocked by Windows-on-Arm anti-cheat limitations, but Epic later added Snapdragon support.

Launch-era compatibility reports identified examples such as League of Legends, Halo Infinite, Apex Legends, Fall Guys, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Lineage and Tales Runner. They also mentioned Adobe applications, Google Drive desktop, BlueStacks, LDPlayer, NoxPlayer and Google Play Games.
These examples must be date-labeled. A 2024 compatibility list is not proof that every one of those programs remains unsupported in 2026. Publishers can add Arm64 builds or Windows-on-Arm support, while individual games can still differ based on their anti-cheat and driver requirements.

Pay particular attention to:
- Competitive multiplayer games: verify the game and its anti-cheat provider separately.
- Creative software: check the exact application, version, plug-ins, codecs and hardware acceleration features.
- Cloud and sync clients: confirm that the current desktop client supports Windows on Arm.
- Emulators and virtual machines: check official Arm support rather than assuming an x64 installer will work.
- VPNs and security software: these often use drivers or low-level system components.
- Printers, scanners and specialist USB devices: confirm the exact model has an Arm64 driver and compatible utility.
Do not generalize from one application to an entire category. “Adobe software,” “anti-cheat games” and “printers” are not single compatibility statuses.
What generally works well
Windows on Arm is a reasonable fit for mainstream productivity: web browsing, email, Office documents, streaming, video calls and many current applications. Microsoft lists native Arm64 versions of Microsoft 365 applications including Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive and OneNote.
Native support is increasingly common, and Prism is substantially more useful than the compatibility layers available on earlier generations of Windows-on-Arm hardware. The remaining risk is concentrated in software that depends on sustained performance, low-level drivers, anti-cheat, virtualization, unusual plug-ins or older hardware.
How to check compatibility before buying
- Make an essential-software list. Include games, work applications, plug-ins, VPNs, security tools, development dependencies, printers, scanners and other peripherals.
- Search the vendor’s requirements. Look specifically for “Windows on Arm,” “Windows 11 Arm,” “ARM64” or “Snapdragon X.”
- Classify each item. Record whether it is native, emulated, a preview, unsupported or simply unverified.
- Check anti-cheat separately. A game-store page may not explain whether its anti-cheat system supports Windows on Arm.
- Verify exact hardware. Check the Galaxy Book4 Edge SKU, regional Windows edition and exact printer or accessory model.
- Use the return period. Install mission-critical software immediately and test real workflows, not just whether an application opens.
What to do if software fails
- Install current Windows updates, Samsung firmware and Qualcomm graphics or chipset updates.
- Use the publisher’s current installer rather than an old installer or backup package.
- Look for a native Arm64 release or an official Windows-on-Arm compatibility note.
- Check the vendor’s support forum or documentation for known limitations.
- Do not try to force an x86 kernel driver or anti-cheat component with random compatibility settings.
- If the software explicitly requires unsupported drivers, virtualization or anti-cheat components, use an Intel- or AMD-based Windows PC instead.
Should you buy a Snapdragon Copilot+ PC?
The Galaxy Book4 Edge can make sense for buyers whose work is primarily mainstream productivity and who value an efficient, quiet laptop with Copilot+ features. Its compatibility outlook is much better than the launch headlines suggested, and Fortnite is now a clear example of support improving over time.

It remains a poor blind purchase for a gaming-first user, someone dependent on old Windows drivers, or anyone whose workflow relies on specialist peripherals, unsupported security software, Android emulators or virtual machines.
For maximum legacy compatibility, an Intel- or AMD-powered Windows laptop remains the safer choice. The central issue is not a defect unique to Samsung: it is the software ecosystem’s transition from x86 to Arm.
