What kind of game is Sayonara Wild Hearts?
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a fast-moving arcade action game built around original pop music, short shifting levels and score chasing. PlayStation describes a story in which heartbreak disrupts the universe: a diamond butterfly leads a young woman along a highway in the sky, where she confronts her other self, The Fool. The journey mixes motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battles, lasers and swordplay.

A PlayStation Editors’ Choice feature by Digital Commerce Manager Andy Yen described its levels as moving between runner-like collection, shooting, racing and platforming. Yen also characterized the soundtrack as a sequence of original songs arranged like an album. These are observations from PlayStation’s 2019 feature, not a new performance assessment.
What’s new in Sayonara Wild Hearts on PS5?
Remix Arcade
PlayStation’s February 2025 announcement introduced Remix Arcade as a PS5-exclusive mode, combining selections from the game’s songs into endlessly replayable levels focused on score chasing. That exclusivity described the PS5 edition at launch. Simogo later said Remix Arcade is also included in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, released April 23, 2026.

Visuals, frame rate and haptics
PlayStation announced upgraded 4K visuals, performance of up to 120 FPS and haptic feedback for PS5. “Up to” matters: these are platform feature claims from PlayStation, not independently measured results or a guarantee that every section runs at 120 FPS.
Can you upgrade the PS4 version to PS5 for free?
PlayStation announced a free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade for owners when both platforms are linked to the same account. The announcement states that condition; it does not establish eligibility for every purchase arrangement, so check the PlayStation Store listing and account eligibility before relying on the upgrade.

How does the game play?
In PlayStation’s December 2019 Editors’ Choice article, Andy Yen described roughly two dozen short levels, typically 2–4 minutes each, with controls centered on one button and one analog stick. The form changes from level to level rather than asking players to master one fixed action pattern. Yen also noted that assistance is offered after repeated failures and that score tiers give players reasons to revisit stages.
That mix makes the game accessible to pick up while leaving room to improve a run. Its music, visual style, story and action are designed as one connected experience rather than separate campaign and soundtrack elements.

How does the PS5 edition compare with Switch 2?
Simogo says the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, released April 23, 2026, includes Remix Arcade and supports 120 FPS and 4K resolution. The table compares official feature statements, not tested performance.

Simogo says the original game launched September 19, 2019, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Apple Arcade, followed by Windows and Xbox One ports. Its developer page says the game left Apple Arcade on August 15, 2024. For current availability on any platform, check its storefront listing.
Is there a physical PS5 edition or soundtrack vinyl?
The documented physical game editions in iam8bit’s catalog are for Nintendo Switch and PS4, and both are marked sold out there; the cited listings do not establish a PS5 disc edition. Simogo also documents a double-vinyl soundtrack by Daniel Olsén, Jonathan Eng and Linnea Olsson, and says it is sold out. iam8bit lists a 2xLP product, but stock can change, so check the retailer’s current listing before buying. Simogo says the soundtrack is also available through music services.
