Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before downloading or replacing anything, record:
- Which program shows the error: Internet Explorer, another browser, DAP, or a different application.
- When it appears: during Windows sign-in, browser startup, after uninstalling software, or when launching a particular program.
- Whether SpeedBit software is installed: look for Download Accelerator Plus, SpeedBit, Video Accelerator, or SBUpdate.
- Which Windows architecture is involved: open Settings → System → About and check System type.
- Whether antivirus recently quarantined a file: check Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
sbei64.dll is associated with legacy SpeedBit software, particularly the SBUpdate component installed with Download Accelerator Plus. It is not a standard Windows, DirectX, .NET, or Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file.
The strongest documented path is:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesSpeedBitSBUpdatesbei64.dll
The path and association are useful clues, but they do not prove that every copy found on a computer is safe. Treat the parent application and the file’s current location as more important than the filename alone.

Fix 1: Remove the old SpeedBit program
This is the safest and most likely fix when the error appears during browser startup or after Download Accelerator Plus was removed.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Windows 11
- Select Start → Settings.
- Open Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Download Accelerator Plus, SpeedBit, SBUpdate, or Video Accelerator.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching application.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Restart the browser that displayed the error.
Windows 10 or Control Panel
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select Download Accelerator Plus or another clearly identified SpeedBit component.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows and then restart the browser.
If the program is still needed, use the original installer from the software vendor rather than a standalone DLL. Reinstalling the complete application can restore its companion files and integration, but remove it afterward if the software is obsolete or no longer trusted.

How to tell whether this worked
The fix worked if:
- The browser opens without the
sbei64.dllmessage. - The error no longer appears at sign-in.
- No SpeedBit process, scheduled task, or browser add-on continues requesting the file.
If the error remains after the application is gone, Windows is probably starting an orphaned reference. Continue with Fix 3.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A security product may remove a legacy SpeedBit component because related software has been classified as potentially unwanted or ad-supported. That does not prove that every copy of sbei64.dll is malicious, and it does not make restoration automatically safe.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries that mention
sbei64.dll, SpeedBit, Download Accelerator Plus, or SBUpdate. - Open an entry to see its path and detection details.
Do not restore the file merely because doing so removes the error. Restore it only if you can verify the original parent application, expected path, publisher information, and trusted installation source. If the file was in a temporary folder, a user profile download directory, or an unexpected application folder, leave it quarantined.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe safer response is usually:
- Remove the obsolete SpeedBit application from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
- In Windows Security, select Virus & threat protection → Scan options.
- Run a Full scan.
- If you suspect active malware or repeated reinfection, run Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
- Restart Windows and check whether the message has disappeared.
Fix 3: Find the program still calling the DLL
A missing-file dialog often names the DLL but not the executable that requested it. This matters because the correct repair depends on the caller.
Check startup applications
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for entries mentioning SpeedBit, DAP, SBUpdate, or an unknown publisher.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disable only entries that clearly belong to the obsolete program. Do not disable random Windows services simply because their names are unfamiliar.

Check scheduled tasks
- Open Start and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks whose names or actions mention SpeedBit, DAP, SBUpdate, or a path under
Program FilesCommon FilesSpeedBit. - Open a task and inspect the Actions tab.
- If it clearly belongs to software you removed, right-click the task and choose Delete.
Check the error’s executable
If the dialog identifies an executable, search for that program in Installed apps and repair or remove that application. You can also inspect the application’s shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Review Target and Start in.
- Note the application folder and publisher.
- Repair or uninstall that parent program rather than copying
sbei64.dllinto its directory.
If the message occurs only in Internet Explorer, obsolete browser integration is a likely explanation. Removing the SpeedBit component and its leftover startup or browser reference is preferable to reinstalling an old browser add-on.
Fix 4: Repair or reinstall DAP only when you still need it
If Download Accelerator Plus is deliberately used on the computer, repair the complete program instead of replacing one DLL.
- Uninstall the existing DAP installation from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the installer only from the software vendor or a trusted original software archive controlled by your organization.
- Confirm that the installer matches the application’s architecture and your Windows installation.
- Run the installer with an administrator account.
- Restart Windows.
- Test DAP and the browser.
A 64-bit-looking filename does not prove that the calling program is 64-bit. The application, DLL, and all of its dependencies must be compatible. Do not copy a 64-bit file into a 32-bit application directory, or vice versa.
If reinstalling DAP is impossible or undesirable, do not force the DLL back onto the system. Remove the orphaned startup entry, scheduled task, browser integration, or application that still requests it.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only if Windows has broader problems
sbei64.dll is not a protected Windows system file. SFC and DISM will not normally recreate a third-party SpeedBit DLL. Use them when you also have damaged Windows components, failed updates, crashes, or other system-file errors.

- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:

- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
DISM repairs the Windows image. SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command is a substitute for reinstalling the program that originally supplied sbei64.dll.
When manually repeating SFC and DISM makes it difficult to see what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and shows what needs attention; its repair action is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the SpeedBit application remains the definitive fix when that application is the actual caller.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the error follows a device or browser update
There is no verified evidence that sbei64.dll is a normal hardware driver file. Driver work is therefore secondary, but it can be reasonable if the error began after a graphics, network, storage, or browser-related update.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the failing application.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver, Roll Back Driver, or Uninstall Device only when the timing and device clearly match the problem.
- Restart Windows.
Windows Update and the hardware manufacturer’s official support page are the preferred driver sources. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identifies what needs updating; driver installation is completed by the full version. A driver update will not replace a missing SpeedBit application file, so reinstalling or removing the calling program remains the proper repair.

Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no verified evidence that sbei64.dll is a self-registering control.
Do not expect this to repair the problem:
regsvr32 sbei64.dll
It is likely to fail with an entry-point error or leave the original missing-file problem unchanged. Do not use /u followed by registration as a general DLL repair procedure. Microsoft describes regsvr32 as a registration utility, not as a tool for restoring missing application files.

Avoid unsafe DLL replacement
Do not download an isolated copy of sbei64.dll from a random DLL archive. The risks include:
- Malware or tampering.
- The wrong file version.
- The wrong architecture.
- Missing companion dependencies.
- A file that does not match the calling application.
- New DLL-search-order problems.
- An error that returns because the original SpeedBit reference is still present.
Do not copy the file into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage locations for third-party DLLs. If a trusted original installer supplies the file, it should place it in the application’s intended directory.
If the error still appears
Use System Restore only as a fallback when the problem began after a recent installation or removal:
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it and select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore does not normally remove personal files, but it can reverse applications, drivers, and system settings.
If the message persists, record the exact executable, path, event details, and antivirus action. The important question is not only whether sbei64.dll is missing, but which program is still requesting it. Once that caller is identified, repair or remove the parent application instead of treating the DLL as a standalone Windows component.

FAQ
Is sbei64.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with third-party SpeedBit software, especially the SBUpdate component used with Download Accelerator Plus.
Is it included with Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
No current Microsoft package is known to provide this file. Do not install a runtime solely to obtain sbei64.dll.
Why does Internet Explorer mention it?
Old SpeedBit software integrated with browsers. A leftover browser integration, startup entry, or scheduled task can request the file after DAP is damaged or uninstalled.
Should I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Usually, no. First verify the exact path and parent application. Removing the obsolete SpeedBit software and scanning the computer is safer than restoring an unverified legacy file.
Can SFC restore it?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not arbitrary third-party application files.
