It is a weaker recommendation for large modpacks, high-concurrency communities or anyone who needs a strong contractual uptime promise, unconditional refunds or consistently high-touch human support. ScalaCube advertises 99.9% uptime, but its terms state a 99% monthly host-availability guarantee. Those are different claims.

The practical answer is conditional: use ScalaCube for low-cost testing and ordinary small servers, but test your exact modpack, location, Java version and player load before committing to recurring billing.

What is ScalaCube?
ScalaCube is a managed game-server host. Instead of running Minecraft on your personal computer, you rent server resources from ScalaCube and manage the game through a web control panel. The company handles the underlying server infrastructure while you choose the game software, location, world and configuration.

Its catalog includes Minecraft Java, Minecraft Bedrock/Pocket Edition and other games such as ARK: Survival Evolved, Rust, Valheim, Project Zomboid, Terraria, Factorio, Starbound, Palworld, Hytale and Counter-Strike 2, according to independent coverage. Availability, pricing, locations and features can differ by game, so the official product page should be treated as the current source of truth.
Do not treat every ScalaCube product as equivalent. Free Minecraft hosting, paid managed game servers, VPS products and dedicated servers have different resources, responsibilities and guarantees.
ScalaCube pricing in 2026
The headline price is attractive, but the first invoice is not the normal long-term cost. ScalaCube’s Minecraft page currently advertises plans from $2 per month, a 50% discount on the first invoice and prices excluding VAT. It also advertises no setup fees, no contracts and a seven-day money-back guarantee. Check the final checkout total because currency, tax, location, game and promotions can change the amount.

A larger plan was reported at up to 32 GB RAM and $192 per month on renewal. The important lesson is that the $2 figure is an entry-level promotional signal, not the likely price of a useful modded or growing server.
Also, advertised player slots are not performance guarantees. “Unlimited slots” means there is no hard slot cap in the plan description; it does not mean unlimited practical capacity. RAM, CPU availability, storage, world size, simulation distance, plugins, entities and mod complexity determine what a server can actually handle.

Before relying on backups, confirm their frequency, retention period, storage impact and whether you can restore them yourself. Also check whether the feature applies to your game and plan, especially if you are using the free tier.
How good is ScalaCube’s free Minecraft server?
The free tier is ScalaCube’s biggest differentiator. The company advertises free Minecraft hosting with no credit card, no time limit, instant setup, SSD storage, DDoS protection and monitoring.

Important: ScalaCube’s own setup guide says you must click “Renew for free” every two days. If you miss the renewal, the server and its contents may be automatically deleted.
The documented free-server workflow supports Basic and Snapshot Minecraft versions and offers fewer configuration options than premium hosting. Exact free-tier RAM and player limits may change; verify them on the live signup screen rather than relying on older reviews.

This makes the free plan useful for experimentation, learning and short-lived sessions, but not as the only copy of an important world. Download your world and configuration independently. A free server that requires regular manual renewal is not equivalent to an always-managed paid server.
Is ScalaCube easy to use?
For a beginner, the setup process is relatively straightforward:
- Sign in or create a ScalaCube account.
- Choose a server location.
- Select the game and hosting type.
- Choose a plan, including the free option where available.
- Select the server address.
- Confirm the account by email.
- Open Manage server.
- Install the desired Minecraft version, loader, plugin set or modpack.
One-click installation removes much of the initial work, and FTP or file access gives experienced users control over worlds and configuration files. You can also manage permissions, connect through a free subdomain and upgrade the server as requirements grow.
One-click installation does not eliminate technical problems. You may still encounter Java-version conflicts, incompatible client and server versions, missing mod dependencies, broken updates, memory pressure or configuration conflicts. Modded Minecraft remains a troubleshooting task even when the host provides a polished panel.

Performance and uptime
This research did not independently benchmark ScalaCube’s CPU performance, latency, tick rate or modpack capacity. Do not treat marketing claims or customer-review scores as controlled performance testing.
ScalaCube advertises 99.9% uptime, SSD storage, unlimited traffic, low latency, DDoS protection and locations across several regions. Its formal terms instead state a 99% monthly availability guarantee for specified host computers and OVZ nodes. The stated remedy is an extension of service rather than cash or account credit, and the guarantee does not apply to dedicated-server rental. Maintenance, attacks, force majeure and network-related events may also be excluded.
Therefore, the 99.9% product-page statement and 99% contractual guarantee should not be presented as the same promise. If uptime is business-critical, read the applicable terms for the exact product before buying.

Real-world performance depends on:
- Server location and network routing
- CPU generation and contention
- Allocated RAM
- Modpack size and complexity
- Concurrent players
- View distance and simulation distance
- Redstone, entities, farms and chunk generation
- World size and exploration activity
- Backups and scheduled tasks
Choose the location closest to most players, not necessarily the server owner. A long location list also does not prove that every region has identical hardware or network quality.

ScalaCube advertises Forge support, Paper, Sponge, Spigot and Bukkit support, custom JARs, full file access and one-click modpack installation. Its Minecraft page also claims a large modpack library. Those features make it a plausible choice for modded servers, but they do not guarantee that every pack will perform well.
Large Forge or Fabric packs can need substantially more CPU and RAM than a plan’s advertised player number suggests. Some packs require a particular Java version, and updates can break dependencies or existing worlds. Public reviews include anecdotal complaints about modern Forge setups; those reports are worth investigating, but they do not prove universal incompatibility.
Before paying for a large plan:
- Identify the exact modpack, Minecraft version and loader.
- Check the pack author’s RAM and Java recommendations.
- Choose a location near the majority of players.
- Import the real world or pack rather than testing only a blank server.
- Test startup, chunk loading, exploration and peak expected players.
- Monitor TPS, MSPT, memory and CPU usage.
- Test backups and restoration.
- Keep an independent copy of the world.
- Test support and confirm the renewal price before the refund deadline.
Support: convenient, but read the fine print
ScalaCube advertises 24/7 support, and its documentation references live chat and tickets. Independent reviews describe support as a weaker part of the service, with ticket-based assistance and inconsistent live-chat availability. Public reviews are useful for identifying recurring complaints, but they are anecdotal and do not measure every customer’s experience.
There is also an important qualification in ScalaCube’s terms: they state that free technical support is not provided except where support is paid for within a subscription or purchased separately. That wording needs to be reconciled with the broad 24/7 support marketing claim for the specific game and plan you are considering.
Ask before purchase:
- Is live chat included with this plan?
- Are complex modpack problems supported, or only hosting-panel issues?
- Can support help with third-party mods?
- Are tickets available after cancellation?
- Can a deleted free server be restored?
- What response times apply to your product?
Refunds and cancellation
Cancellation and refund are separate actions. Cancelling stops future renewal; it does not automatically refund the latest payment.
Refund rules
ScalaCube’s terms state that payments may qualify for a 100% refund within seven days of payment when there is a valid reason. Automatic-renewal payments have a separate ten-day window. The company’s refund guide warns that older payments, especially for used servers, are less likely to be refunded.
The advertised seven-day guarantee should therefore not be treated as an unconditional, no-questions-asked refund policy.
How to request a refund
- Log in to ScalaCube.
- Open Support.
- Click New Ticket.
- Choose Refund Payment / Cancel Subscription.
- Select the relevant payment.
- Explain the reason and submit the ticket.
Use the process described in ScalaCube’s refund guide, and save the ticket number and confirmation.

How to cancel recurring billing
- Log in.
- Open Servers.
- Click the server name.
- Scroll to Subscription.
- Click Cancel subscription.
- Enter a reason and confirm.
These are the steps in ScalaCube’s cancellation instructions. Export your world and configuration before cancelling, and do not wait until the final day of a refund or renewal window.
Is ScalaCube legitimate?
ScalaCube appears to be a real commercial hosting provider with official products, billing, support documentation, terms and published server locations. It should not be labelled a scam based solely on individual complaints.
That does not mean every user will receive ideal performance or that every refund request will be approved. Public reviews include both praise and complaints about support, billing, refunds and demanding modded servers. Those reports can reveal patterns, but they are not controlled tests.
The useful question is not simply whether ScalaCube is legitimate. It is whether the exact game, modpack, location, player count, budget and support expectations fit the service.

Choose by use case rather than by an unexplained universal ranking. Apex Hosting is a relevant comparison for buyers who prioritize guided Minecraft setup and support over the lowest introductory price. BisectHosting is another Minecraft-focused option commonly considered for modpacks and multiple plan tiers. MCProHosting is an established multi-game provider; TechRadar highlighted its ability to host and switch between multiple games as a difference worth considering. PebbleHost is a budget-oriented comparison for shoppers focused on low-cost tiers.
Current prices and features for these providers should be checked at checkout. Without like-for-like testing of the same location, modpack, CPU workload and player load, it would be misleading to declare one universally faster or more reliable.

Final verdict
ScalaCube is worth trying for a cheap Minecraft server, a small group of friends, beginner-friendly management or free experimentation. Its feature set is broad and its entry price is genuinely competitive.
It is worth buying after testing for modded or growing communities, provided the exact workload performs well and the renewal price fits your budget. It is probably not the best fit for demanding communities, strict uptime requirements or buyers who need generous, unconditional refund protection and clearly defined high-touch support.
In short: ScalaCube is an attractive low-cost starting point, not a blanket recommendation for every Minecraft server.
