Short answer: a Bungalow can automate production inside the property, but it cannot yet run as a completely unattended operation. The most reliable five-worker setup uses one Botanist, one Chemist, two Handlers, and one Cleaner, with compact stations, correctly configured Management Clipboard routes, and manually stocked supply shelves.
This guide covers the stable Schedule I experience, currently identified on Steam as v0.4.5. Because the game remains in Early Access, labels, employee limits, storage behavior, and prices can change between builds.

What “full automation” means in Schedule I
In Schedule I, “full automation” means employees handle cultivation, processing, movement between stations, cleaning, and packaging after you configure the property. It does not mean the Bungalow is permanently self-sufficient.

Bungalow cost and employee capacity
Buy the Bungalow from Ray’s Real Estate. Current widely cited setup guides list the purchase price as $6,000 and capacity as five employees. Some newer pages claim $30,000, but that figure is not verified by the official material covered here and conflicts with the commonly documented $6,000 price. Check Ray’s in-game listing in your exact build before committing your money.
The five-worker allocation below is the best general-purpose starting point:

- 1 Chemist for Mixing Stations
- 2 Handlers for ingredient and output logistics
- 1 Cleaner for trash and upkeep
This uses every employee slot while supporting both growing and a multi-stage production chain. A cultivation-heavy alternative can use two Botanists, but that leaves fewer workers for processing and transport.
Equipment checklist
The exact shopping list depends on the recipe and the current build, but a general automated Bungalow needs:
- Mixing Stations
- A Chemistry Station or other recipe-specific production stations
- A Packaging Station if finished product must be packaged automatically
- Grow pots or tents, lights, and cultivation equipment
- Storage racks, shelves, or closets
- Employee beds or lockers, depending on the current employee system
- Trash bins for the Cleaner
- A Management Clipboard
Older layout guides list larger builds such as 16 suspension racks, 16 grow lights, 16 grow pots, seven large storage racks, two trash cans, six beds, two Mixing Stations, and one Packaging Station. Treat those numbers as a layout reference rather than a guaranteed current shopping list: storage and employee requirements have changed during Early Access.
Recommended Bungalow layout
Production room
Use the room immediately to the right of the front entrance for the main production chain:
- Place Mixing Stations in a straight, compact line.
- Put ingredient storage beside the first station.
- Place each station’s output storage close to the next station.
- Put the Packaging Station beside the final output location.
- Keep the Chemist’s assigned stations close together.
Handlers physically walk between source and destination objects. Short routes reduce walking time and make it easier to see which transfer has failed. A tidy chain is usually more reliable than filling the room with stations before you have enough workers and route capacity.
Kitchen
Use the kitchen for cultivation equipment and its supplies. Keep grow pots or racks together, with nearby storage for seeds, soil, fertilizer or PGR, and harvested plant material. Separating cultivation from mixing makes both assignments and troubleshooting clearer.
Bedroom or staff area
Place beds or lockers in a low-traffic area. Older guides commonly specify beds, while later employee-management reports refer to lockers replacing or supplementing them. Use the object required by the employee panel in your current build rather than assuming that an older six-bed layout still applies.

Build order that minimizes mistakes
- Buy the Bungalow from Ray’s Real Estate.
- Place the required beds or lockers.
- Place storage near the production chain.
- Place the Mixing Stations in a compact line.
- Place the Packaging Station near final output.
- Place cultivation equipment separately.
- Hire the Chemist.
- Hire the Handlers.
- Hire the Botanist.
- Hire the Cleaner.
- Equip the Management Clipboard and assign employees.
- Assign the Chemist’s stations.
- Configure Handler routes.
- Assign grow equipment and additives to the Botanist.
- Manually stock every source shelf.
- Run at least one complete production cycle before scaling up.
Do not purchase the maximum number of stations first. An oversized chain can exceed employee route capacity, create long walking paths, or leave intermediate output stranded.
How to configure the Management Clipboard
The Management Clipboard controls employee assignments, workstations, storage, and Handler logistics.
- Equip the Management Clipboard.
- Select the employee.
- Assign the employee’s bed or locker where applicable.
- Assign workstations or production objects.
- For each Handler, open Routes.
- Set the source under From and the destination under To.
- Manually stock the source storage.
- Watch one complete cycle and correct blocked or idle employees.
A typical route chain looks like this:
Ingredient Supply Shelf → Mixing Station 1
Station 1 output → Mixing Station 2
Station 2 output → Mixing Station 3
Final output → Packaging Station or finished-goods rack
One current automation guide documents a limit of up to five routes per Handler. Treat that as version-specific rather than permanent, since employee systems have changed during Early Access. If the chain needs more transfers than your Handlers can cover, shorten the route design, split assignments, or reduce the number of active stations.
Chemist setup
Assign the Chemist to the required Mixing Stations with the Clipboard. A current guide reports that one Chemist can be assigned up to four Mixing Stations, but the station still needs all required ingredients before a cycle begins.
The Chemist does not independently solve missing logistics. If an ingredient is not at the assigned station, the relevant Handler route must deliver it. In a chained recipe, the Chemist may also be waiting for the previous station to finish or for the output destination to have room.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBotanist and cultivation automation
- Assign the Botanist to the grow pots or tents.
- Keep seeds and soil in nearby supply storage.
- Provide the required fertilizer, PGR, or other additive.
- Assign the additive to the relevant grow equipment through the Clipboard.
- Provide a separate destination shelf for harvested output.
One documented Bungalow guide states that a Botanist can manage a maximum of eight tents. That means a 16-unit cultivation layout requires two Botanists if all units are intended to be actively managed. The recommended five-worker production build therefore normally uses one Botanist with up to eight grow units, while a two-Botanist layout sacrifices a worker slot that could otherwise support processing or logistics.
The v0.4.5 Anniversary Update added the Big Sprinkler; patch v0.4.5f2 specifies that it is sold at Oscar’s store. Older guides may omit it or place it at a different vendor.
Packaging automation
Automatic packaging requires a Packaging Station, packaging supplies, and a route that moves final production output to the station or an equivalent storage arrangement. You also need a destination for the packaged product.
A production chain can therefore stop even when the Chemist is available. If the final output rack is full or no Handler route feeds the Packaging Station, the problem is logistics rather than chemistry.

The Chemist is idle
- Check that every required ingredient is at the assigned Mixing Station.
- Confirm that a Handler route delivers each missing ingredient.
- Verify that the station is assigned to the correct Chemist.
- Check whether the preceding station in the recipe has finished.
- Make sure the output destination is not full.
The Chemist will not compensate for a missing or broken delivery route.
A Handler stops moving items
- Confirm that the route source is not empty.
- Confirm that the destination has space.
- Recheck the From and To objects.
- Recreate the route if a rack or station was moved.
- Check whether the Handler has reached the documented route limit.
- Remove blocked or unnecessarily long paths.
The Botanist does nothing
- Restock seeds and soil.
- Check the assigned fertilizer, PGR, or other additive.
- Reduce the number of grow units assigned to the Botanist.
- Clear the harvest destination.
- Reassign equipment that was moved after setup.
For 16 active grow units, use two Botanists if the eight-tent limit applies in your build.

Production works briefly, then stops
The most common cause is an empty source shelf or a full intermediate destination. Follow the chain from the first input to the final output and identify the first object with no item available or no free space. Restock that point before changing employee assignments.
An employee has no bed or locker
Equip the Clipboard, select the employee, and use the assignment control at the top of the employee panel to assign a bed or locker. If the control is missing, reload the property and check that the object is valid in the current build.
The Clipboard disappears in co-op
Players have reported Clipboard ownership and persistence problems for non-host players, especially after the player who hired employees disconnects or the session reloads. Reported workarounds include having the host hire employees or rehiring the affected worker. These are community-reported workarounds, not guaranteed fixes.
“Multi-editing not supported” appears
A multiplayer bug report describes Handlers becoming uneditable with this message even when only one Handler is selected. The reported workaround is to fire and rehire affected workers, move or pick up the relevant storage and workstations, save, and rebuild the assignments. Treat this as a player-reported recovery procedure rather than an official fix.
Relevant recent updates
The official v0.4.5 Anniversary Update added or changed several systems that matter to Bungalow management, including the Big Sprinkler, delivery-app reordering, seeded mixing, delivery-arrival notifications, employee names in management pop-ups, and fixes for Clipboard hints and a multiplayer delivery-duration issue affecting non-host players.
The v0.4.6 beta focuses on controller and gamepad support, virtual-cursor behavior, and performance/rendering optimizations. Those changes may alter input but do not replace the production and routing design described above. For the most reliable default setup, use the stable branch and recheck the in-game labels after updates.
