Schedule I was not being sued when its publisher, Movie Games, clarified the issue on April 8, 2025. Movie Games said it was investigating alleged similarities with its Drug Dealer Simulator games, but stated that no lawsuit had been filed and that it did not intend to stop Schedule I from being sold or developed.

What is the Schedule I copyright dispute?

Movie Games, publisher of Drug Dealer Simulator and Drug Dealer Simulator 2, announced an investigation into possible intellectual-property similarities with Schedule I, developed by TVGS. In April 2025 coverage, the reported areas of concern included plot, gameplay mechanics, and user interface. Those were allegations being reviewed, not a court finding that infringement occurred. HotHardware reported the investigation on April 7, 2025; PC Gamer reported Movie Games’ preliminary analysis and comments.

The games share a drug-dealing premise, but a common genre or subject is not, by itself, proof that one game copied another. PC Gamer also described their different visual approaches. The dispute concerned Movie Games’ reported concerns about similarities, not an established legal conclusion.

Was Schedule I sued?

No lawsuit had been filed at the time of Movie Games’ April 8, 2025 clarification. In a statement reproduced in a Schedule I Steam Community discussion, Movie Games said, “There is no lawsuit.” The publisher also said, “It is not our intention to prevent TVGS from selling or developing their game.” These statements describe the company’s position on that date; they do not establish what happened later.

Who was handling the investigation?

Movie Games said it was handling the investigation itself. It explicitly said that Byterunners, the developer of the Drug Dealer Simulator games, was not involved. Movie Games head of marketing Michał Puczyński told PC Gamer that the company had requested a preliminary analysis from an intellectual-property specialist after repeated opinions that Schedule I was very similar to Drug Dealer Simulator.

PC Gamer also reported that Movie Games said it had not taken legal action and was not seeking to block the game. Schedule I creator Tyler told the outlet that Movie Games had emailed positive feedback about the demo before the investigation and that he had not had further contact with the publisher by the time of the report.

What is known about the outcome?

The cited April 2025 reporting and statement establish that an investigation was underway and that Movie Games said no lawsuit had been filed at that point. They do not verify a final resolution or any later filing. Accordingly, it would be inaccurate to say that a court found Schedule I infringed copyright—or to present the April 2025 clarification as proof that no later legal action occurred.

Which “Dope Game” is involved?

The dispute is about Schedule I and Movie Games’ Drug Dealer Simulator series. It is not about The Dope Game, a separate Steam release by Tenth&Hess Games and CoaguCo Industries. Its Steam listing says it is based on John E. Dell’s 1984 game Drugwars. The separate game has its own Steam listing.
