Scopely is wholly owned by Savvy Games Group, which identifies Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund as its shareholder. Savvy acquired Scopely in 2023. Reuters also reported the ownership relationship and described Scopely as Saudi-owned through Savvy. Reuters’ March 2025 report provides transaction context.
Which games and services transferred?
Scopely’s completion announcement names these properties as part of its portfolio:
#1 Best Overall
- The packaging is Japanese, but item works the same as the US version.
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
- Pokémon GO
- Pikmin Bloom
- Monster Hunter Now
- Campfire
- Wayfarer
The deal covered Niantic’s games business, not every part of Niantic. The March 12, 2025 announcement said the geospatial technology operation would separate as Niantic Spatial, while Niantic Spatial would continue to develop geospatial AI and augmented-reality software and operate Ingress Prime and Peridot. Scopely’s announcement of the agreement describes that planned separation.
When did the sale happen?
- March 12, 2025: Scopely announced an agreement to acquire the games business for $3.5 billion. The agreement was still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
- May 29, 2025: Savvy Games Group announced that Scopely had completed the acquisition.
So the sale is no longer merely pending: it closed in May 2025. The $3.5 billion figure is the announced value of the transaction, not a separately stated price for Pokémon GO or any other individual game.

- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
How large was the business being acquired?
In its March 2025 announcement, Savvy said the games and apps involved had more than 30 million monthly active players and generated more than $1 billion in revenue in 2024. It also said Pokémon GO had more than 100 million unique players in 2024 and had surpassed $8 billion in lifetime franchise revenue. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited measures. They describe the group of products or franchise specified in the announcement; they do not establish later performance or the value of each individual title. Savvy’s announcement, published by Scopely, gives the figures and their context.
What happened to Niantic and Niantic Spatial?
The announced transaction separated two different businesses: Scopely took over the named games and companion services, while Niantic Spatial was to focus on geospatial AI and AR software. Reuters reported that the companies also announced $250 million in planned capital for Niantic Spatial: $200 million from Niantic’s balance sheet and $50 million from Scopely. Reuters additionally reported that Niantic equity holders would receive more than $350 million in additional distribution. Those amounts are reported transaction-related funding and distributions, not extra per-game purchase prices. Reuters’ report attributes the details to the companies’ announcement.

What does Scopely say about the games after the deal?
In a 2026 retrospective, Scopely described its integration priorities as preserving creative autonomy, aligning cultures, retaining talent, maintaining product continuity and sustaining live services. Those are Scopely’s account of its approach, not independent confirmation that every goal has been achieved. In the same retrospective, Scopely President of Games Ed Wu reflected on Pokémon GO’s popularity, calling it a cultural phenomenon and a continuing worldwide sensation. Scopely’s news page publishes the company’s retrospective and statements.
