Check the Xbox connection
Open the console’s network settings and check its connection status. If the Xbox reports a network problem, address that connection first. Also check whether other online games or services on the console work, and keep the exact Marblebeard message handy.

Check your home network
Rare explicitly recommends checking the home network. Confirm that the router is online and that the Xbox remains connected to it, then retry Sea of Thieves. If the console has lost its connection, restore it before testing the game again.

Review NAT and network configuration
Rare names NAT type as one of the networking options to check. Review the network information shown by the Xbox and your router’s configuration. The support guidance does not prescribe a particular NAT setting or say that changing it will resolve every Marblebeard error.

Consider firewall or antivirus interference
Rare also identifies firewall and antivirus configuration as possible checks. If your home network uses such filtering, review whether it could be blocking the game’s connection. Make changes cautiously; the support article does not specify a particular rule or configuration to apply.

Retry and contact support if it continues
After checking the connection and relevant network settings, try joining again. If Marblebeard remains, submit a request through Sea of Thieves Support. Include the exact error and the checks you have already made; the support site invites players needing further help to raise a support request.

What not to assume
- It does not prove there is an outage. Marblebeard reports a communication failure, but the error alone does not establish service health. Check current Sea of Thieves and Xbox service status separately before making disruptive network changes.
- Other beard-code advice may not apply. Rare’s recommendation to relaunch the game in the same support article is listed for Daisybeard and Lettucebeard, not Marblebeard. Do not treat that as a Marblebeard-specific fix.
- There is no single guaranteed network fix in Rare’s guidance. Its Marblebeard entry does not prescribe a router reset, DNS change, port forwarding, opening NAT, or new networking equipment. It identifies areas to check, not a universal cure.
When to ask Sea of Thieves Support for help
If the console and home network appear connected but the error keeps returning, contact Sea of Thieves Support with the exact code, when it occurs, whether other online services work, and which network checks you made. This gives support useful context without assuming the cause is the Xbox, router, or game service.
