Sensor Tower announced on March 18, 2025, that it had acquired Video Game Insights (VGI), adding PC and console intelligence to its existing mobile gaming coverage. The company said VGI would operate as “Video Game Insights by Sensor Tower.” The announcement did not disclose the purchase price or detailed financial terms.
What happened in the Sensor Tower–VGI deal?
Sensor Tower described VGI as a gaming intelligence platform best known for game-performance data and user trends from Steam. The announcement also said VGI had expanded its data coverage to PlayStation and Xbox. Sensor Tower framed the acquisition as a way to extend its gaming insights beyond mobile and toward a broader view of the gaming market. Sensor Tower’s March 18, 2025 announcement named the combined offering “Video Game Insights by Sensor Tower.”
Why did Sensor Tower buy Video Game Insights?
Sensor Tower said it wanted to give customers gaming insights across mobile, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, and support analysis of sales, engagement, and advertising across the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Steam. That is the company’s stated rationale and intended customer value; the announcement does not establish that every metric is available for every platform or that the deal itself proves a particular analytical outcome.
In the release, Sensor Tower CEO Oliver Yeh said: “Gaming is a significant part of the digital economy, and with this acquisition, Sensor Tower is excited to offer our customers gaming insights across mobile, PC, XBox, and Playstation.” VGI co-founder and CEO Karl Kontus said: “We are thrilled to join Sensor Tower and further our goal of providing the industry with a comprehensive view of the gaming ecosystem.”

What does Video Game Insights track?
Sensor Tower’s March 2025 follow-up said VGI tracked more than 150,000 Steam titles and listed wishlist trends, sales, revenue, and player-engagement metrics. The title count is a figure reported by Sensor Tower in March 2025, not a verified current count. The acquisition announcement identified PlayStation and Xbox coverage as well, but did not specify comparable console metrics in the same detail.
How did the acquisition extend Sensor Tower’s gaming coverage?
| Area | What the announcement or company product materials describe |
|---|---|
| Mobile | Sensor Tower’s existing gaming solutions and analysis of Apple App Store and Google Play performance and advertising, as described in the March 2025 acquisition announcement. |
| PC and Steam | VGI’s Steam-centered game performance and user-trend data; Sensor Tower’s March 2025 follow-up listed wishlists, sales, revenue, and player engagement. |

Sensor Tower’s current gaming solutions page positions its offering across mobile, PC/Steam, and console, and identifies VGI wishlist and revenue metrics for tracking Steam games. This reflects current company product positioning; packaging and metric availability can change.
Is Video Game Insights still being updated?
VGI’s platform updates page lists a Steam estimation update dated January 7, 2026, and a country-level data and enhanced Steam accuracy update dated January 10, 2026. These entries show continued product activity, but do not independently verify the accuracy of the estimates.
