The program can’t start because sfttv32u.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

sfttv32u.dll is a legacy 32-bit application DLL associated with Softel vdm SftTree/DLL Custom Control, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the application that needs it, rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

Which fix applies to you

Use the first description that matches what you see:

  • The error names a program you still use: repair or reinstall that program.
  • The error appeared after antivirus activity: check Windows Security Protection History before restoring anything.
  • The error appears after starting an old program: check whether it is 32-bit legacy software and reinstall its original version.
  • The program is installed, but the DLL is still reported missing: the DLL or one of its dependencies may be absent from the application folder.
  • The program was removed, but the message appears at every sign-in: identify and remove the obsolete startup entry, or reinstall and then properly uninstall the parent program.
  • Several Windows components are also failing: use DISM and SFC as secondary Windows-integrity checks.
  • The error began after a system change: consider System Restore.

Do not begin by placing a downloaded copy in C:WindowsSystem32. A DLL from the wrong application, release, or architecture can create a different failure and may introduce malware.

What sfttv32u.dll belongs to

Softel vdm’s SftTree/DLL is a developer control used by Windows applications to display tree-style interface components. Applications that dynamically link to the control must distribute the matching runtime DLL with the application. Some applications may instead be statically linked and not need a separate runtime file.

The historical filename sfttv32u.dll is identified in public file indexes as a 32-bit Softel component. Those indexes report legacy details including version 4.0.2.480 and a size of approximately 234 KB, but those details are not confirmed by a current Softel package. Do not use them to select an arbitrary replacement.

Current SftTree/DLL releases use different names, including SftTree_IX86_U_80.dll. That does not make a current DLL a valid substitute for the old filename. The application normally expects the exact component it was built and tested with.

The filename alone cannot prove which application originally installed it. Historical reports connect it with old IncrediMail components including ImpCnt.exe and IMNotfy.exe, but IncrediMail is an example rather than a complete ownership list.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the affected application

This is the most likely solution because sfttv32u.dll is an application component.

Identify the parent program

  1. Read the complete error and note any executable name, such as ImpCnt.exe or IMNotfy.exe.
  2. If the message appears in a pop-up, use the title bar to identify the program.
  3. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  4. Select Apps, then Installed apps.
  5. Search for the program named in the error.
  6. If you recognize the program but not its executable, right-click its shortcut and select Open file location. Do not delete anything.

If the error appears during startup, open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Startup apps, and look for the associated program. Disable only the entry you can identify. This stops the message while you repair the parent application; it does not restore the missing file.

Use Windows repair

  1. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the three-dot menu beside the application.
  2. Choose Advanced options, if available.
  3. Select Repair.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Open the application and check whether the error returns.

The Repair option preserves the application’s data in many cases, but the exact behavior depends on the installer. If no Repair option is available, use Control Panel:

  1. Search Windows for Control Panel and open it.
  2. Select Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select the affected application.
  4. Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
  5. Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows.

Reinstall from a trusted source

If repair fails:

  1. Back up any documents, profiles, or application data that belong to the program.
  2. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the application and choose Uninstall.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Reinstall using the original installer, a known-good backup, or the application publisher’s legitimate download.
  5. If the program came through a launcher or software manager, use its Repair, Verify files, or Scan and repair command instead.
  6. Start the application again.

The result you want is not merely a file appearing somewhere on the disk. The application should start normally and load its interface without another missing-DLL or entry-point message.

If the installer itself reports that it cannot complete, download or recover a fresh installer from the publisher rather than copying individual DLL files. For older discontinued software, the original installer or publisher support may be the only legitimate source of the exact legacy component.

Fix 2: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file

Antivirus software can remove an application DLL if it is damaged, altered, or detected as unsafe. Check quarantine before reinstalling or restoring anything.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections.
  5. Open a detection that names sfttv32u.dll or the affected application.
  6. Check the file path and detection details.
  7. Restore or allow the file only when the application, installer, and file location are trusted and verifiable.

Do not disable antivirus protection just to install an unverified DLL. If malware is possible, run a full scan first. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can put the device at risk.

After restoring a trusted file, repair or reinstall the complete application. A quarantined DLL may not be the only damaged or missing component.

Fix 3: Check the application folder and architecture

A normal application DLL is usually installed beside the executable that loads it or in the application’s private component directory. It should not normally be placed globally in System32.

A historical sfttv32u.dll listing identifies the file as 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit applications, but a 64-bit process cannot normally load a 32-bit DLL in-process. Replacing the file with a 64-bit file, a DLL from another SftTree release, or a similarly named component will not solve that mismatch.

To inspect the installation:

  1. Right-click the program’s shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Shortcut tab and note the Target path.
  4. Browse to that folder.
  5. Check whether sfttv32u.dll is present beside the relevant executable.
  6. Do not rename another DLL to match the missing filename.

If the file is present but Windows says it cannot load it, the problem may be corruption, an incompatible build, or a missing dependency. Reinstall the application package rather than replacing only the named file.

If the message says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or contains an error, architecture and version incompatibility are possible causes. That wording does not identify the exact cause by itself.

Fix 4: Check for a missing dependency

“The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows cannot find the named DLL, or that a dependency required by that DLL is missing.

First, reinstall the complete application. This restores the application’s expected files and is safer than trying to assemble dependencies manually.

Then check:

  1. Open the application’s installation folder.
  2. Look for any additional error naming another DLL.
  3. Open Event Viewer by searching for it in Start.
  4. Select Windows Logs > Application.
  5. Look for an error recorded at the time the program failed.
  6. Note the application name and any separately named module.

Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET solely because sfttv32u.dll is missing. Install a Microsoft runtime only when the application documentation or a separate error specifically identifies that runtime as required.

Fix 5: Use Windows repair commands only for Windows corruption

Because sfttv32u.dll is a third-party application file, SFC and DISM will not normally recreate it. They are useful when Windows itself is also showing component or system-file corruption.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC:

  1. Search for Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
  3. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for the operation to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected application.

A successful result means Windows repaired its own component store or protected system files. It does not prove that the application’s copy of sfttv32u.dll was restored. If the error remains, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.

If repeatedly hunting through repair commands is becoming difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair is completed by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the application that owns it remains the definitive fix.

Fix 6: Update the application or address a driver issue

An old program may need an update or compatibility adjustment, but a graphics or hardware driver is not the normal owner of sfttv32u.dll.

First check the application publisher for an update. If the program is very old:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click its shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
  5. Choose an appropriate older Windows version only if the application’s documentation recommends it.
  6. Select Apply, then test the program.

Do not select random compatibility settings if the issue is simply a missing application file.

Rank #4

Use Device Manager only when the error is accompanied by a separate hardware or driver problem:

  1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the relevant device category.
  3. Right-click the device and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

If a recent driver update clearly coincided with the application failure, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver if available. Avoid changing unrelated devices to fix this DLL error.

Manually hunting through dozens of driver versions can obscure the actual application problem. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify stale drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is completed by the full version. A driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that requires sfttv32u.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 7: Try System Restore after a recent change

Use System Restore when the program worked recently and the failure began after an installation, update, or system change.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type:
rstrui.exe
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select Next.
  3. Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
  4. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  5. Review the changes.
  6. Select Next > Finish.

System Restore affects system files, settings, and installed programs, but not personal files. If the application is still missing files afterward, reinstall it from its original installer.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply

Do not run regsvr32 merely because the file ends in .dll.

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide COM registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. SftTree/DLL is documented as a runtime-linked control, distinct from Softel’s OCX products. There is no verified reason to register sfttv32u.dll manually.

If an installer specifically instructs you to register a component, follow that installer’s instructions. Otherwise, manually registering this file is unlikely to restore the application and may produce an architecture error.

Avoid random DLL downloads and System32 copies

Random DLL download sites can provide:

  • Malware or tampered files
  • The wrong legacy release
  • A 64-bit file for a 32-bit application
  • A file with incompatible exports
  • A copy that still lacks its dependencies

There is no verified current Microsoft redistributable or standalone official Softel download specifically for the old sfttv32u.dll filename. The safe sources are the affected application’s original installer, its publisher’s legitimate distribution channel, a trusted organizational backup, or Softel support.

If you obtain the application from a launcher, use its verification or repair feature. Keep the restored DLL in the application’s expected folder, not in C:WindowsSystem32. Global copies can cause version conflicts and increase DLL-loading risk.

Prevention after the program works

  • Keep the application installer and required license information in a trusted backup.
  • Do not delete DLLs from an application folder to “clean up” disk space.
  • Keep Windows Security enabled and review detections before restoring files.
  • Use the application’s own updater or publisher download channel.
  • Avoid registry cleaners that claim to repair every DLL error.
  • If you uninstall an old application, remove its startup entry through the application or Windows settings rather than deleting random registry keys.
  • Record the application name and installation path if the error returns.

FAQ

Is sfttv32u.dll part of Windows?

No. It is a third-party application component associated with Softel vdm SftTree/DLL. Windows Update does not normally install it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which program owns this DLL?

The filename alone cannot identify the exact application. Historical reports document old IncrediMail components, but other legacy applications may also have used Softel’s control.

Can I download the DLL separately?

A current official standalone download for this exact legacy filename has not been verified. Use the original application installer or contact the publisher or Softel support.

Should I copy it to System32 or SysWOW64?

No. Restore it through the application installer in the folder expected by the program. A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows does not become compatible merely by copying a DLL into a Windows system directory.

Can a 64-bit DLL replace it?

No. The historical file is identified as 32-bit, and a 64-bit replacement is not a general substitute for a DLL loaded by a 32-bit application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will SFC or DISM restore it?

Normally no. They repair protected Windows components, while sfttv32u.dll belongs to a third-party application.

Why does reinstalling not fix the error?

The installer may be incomplete or damaged, antivirus may have removed the file again, the wrong application version may be installed, or another dependency may be missing. Check Protection History, reinstall from a trusted source, and inspect any new error naming a different module.
