The Shaman Crest is an offensive, Silk-focused Crest in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It turns Hornet’s Needle swings into ranged energy waves and boosts Silk Skill damage, but slows her attacks and makes Bind begin with a ground slam—so you cannot heal in midair while it is equipped.
What does the Shaman Crest do?
According to the Hollow Knight Wiki, the Crest changes Hornet’s attacks and favors Silk Skills:
- Ranged Needle attacks: Needle swings release energy waves. Each wave disappears after hitting its first enemy, so it does not pierce through a line of foes.
- Stronger Silk Skills: Silk Skills deal 40% more damage. The wiki also describes the Crest as allowing multiple Silk Skills to be equipped.
- Slower attacks: The wiki reports roughly 22% lower attack speed compared with the Hunter Crest.
- Grounded Bind: Bind begins with a ground slam, which prevents Hornet from healing in midair while this Crest is equipped.
How to get the Shaman Crest
Spoilers for an Act 3 location: The community wiki places the Crest in the Ruined Chapel in Moss Grotto. You need Silk Soar to reach it.
- Reach Act 3 and acquire Silk Soar.
- Go to the Ruined Chapel in Moss Grotto and enter the Shaman council room.
- Use Silk Soar to reach the hidden area above the room.
- Follow the overhead route through the breakable walls to the large snail shell containing the Crest.
This route is documented by the Hollow Knight Wiki; the Crest is not an early Act 3 pickup if you have not yet obtained Silk Soar.

Is the Shaman Crest a good choice?
It suits a playstyle built around generating Silk and spending it on Silk Skills. Game8 likewise characterizes it as a skill-focused setup, while noting limited tool slots and late availability as drawbacks. That is guide advice, not an established best build.
- Choose it if you value ranged attacks and higher Silk Skill damage, and can make good use of multiple equipped skills.
- Consider another Crest if you depend on fast Needle attacks, flexible tool slots, or midair healing.
The main tradeoff is not simply range for damage: you gain space from the ranged waves and stronger Silk Skills, but give up attack speed and the option to heal while airborne.
