The Japanese announcement laid out one limited in-store method; contemporary U.S. reporting described GameStop running out of physical cards and later issuing receipt codes. Those accounts describe different regions, not a worldwide inventory total.
What did the Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon event give players?
The Pokémon Company’s Japanese announcement said one serial-code card contained two version-specific gifts: Shiny Miraidon for Pokémon Scarlet and Shiny Koraidon for Pokémon Violet. The gifts were for Scarlet and Violet, not Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A. The campaign was promoted alongside the planned October 16, 2025 release of LEGENDS Z-A, which may help explain why the giveaway was discussed in connection with that game.
In Japan, the announced method was to visit a participating game retailer and show staff the HOME menu on a Nintendo Switch-family console with a Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet software icon. The retailer would provide a code card while supplies lasted. The announcement warned that some stores might not participate.
How did the distribution differ in Japan and the United States?
| Context | Distribution method | Availability information |
|---|---|---|
| Japan, according to The Pokémon Company’s September 12, 2025 announcement | Show a Nintendo Switch-family HOME menu displaying a Scarlet or Violet icon at a participating game retailer; receive a card containing both version-specific gifts. | Limited supply; some stores might not participate. The stated campaign ran September 26–October 15, 2025. |
| United States, according to GameSpot’s October 6, 2025 report on GameStop | Physical code cards were distributed first; a later wave used codes printed on receipts. | GameSpot reported the first supply quickly ran out and that GameStop said it had approximately 50 codes per store for the second wave. This is a reported figure for that GameStop wave, not a global allocation. |
These accounts should not be combined into a single picture of worldwide stock. GamesRadar+ also reported different redemption methods in other countries, but the available accounts do not establish a complete country-by-country comparison.

Why did players complain?
Limited supply made access uncertain
The Japanese announcement explicitly made distribution subject to availability. In the United States, GameSpot reported that GameStop’s initial physical cards quickly ran out, followed by a second receipt-code wave. A September 2025 post on the official Pokémon Forums includes one player saying a trade would have to wait because codes were out of stock. That post illustrates an individual experience, not a measure of how many players missed out or whether every store ran out.
Resale added to the frustration
GameSpot reported complaints about scarcity and code-card resale, and GamesRadar+ also described codes being resold online. These reports support the existence of resale and criticism, but they do not establish a verified resale count or rate. Forum comments criticizing scalpers likewise show individual reactions rather than representative fan opinion.

Responsibility was unclear to customers
Asked whether the limited amount was GameStop’s decision, the retailer replied, “Not our decision,” according to GameSpot’s October 6, 2025 report. That response does not explain the internal allocation rationale; the published accounts do not establish who set the total supply or why.
Can you still get or redeem an event code?
No. The announced Japanese campaign period ended October 15, 2025, and its serial-code redemption deadline was October 23, 2025. Both dates have passed. The cited coverage does not establish a current redemption route or that resale codes remain redeemable. Buying Pokémon Scarlet or Violet does not provide an event code or restore access to this expired promotion.

Was another distribution confirmed?
No. The Pokémon Company’s announcement said another distribution method for the same Pokémon might be used in the future, but it gave no schedule and made no commitment. That possibility is not confirmation of a rerun or a new event.

The official Japanese announcement documents its own eligibility rules, version mapping, dates, limited supply, and possible future method. GameSpot provides a contemporary account of GameStop’s U.S. distribution and the reported second-wave quantity. Neither the individual forum post nor the news reports establish a worldwide code total, how many players failed to obtain one, or a representative measure of fan sentiment. The complaints are documented, but their scale cannot be quantified from these accounts.
