In Pokémon, Ice-type moves are super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon, but Ice itself does not thereby resist Dragon-type moves. Those are different directions on the type chart. Whether Ice should gain a defensive resistance is a separate balance opinion, not a change reflected in the current chart.
What the current Pokémon type chart says
The official Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl trainer guide describes type effectiveness as damage multipliers and shows Ice attacks as super effective against Dragon-type defenders. The Pokémon Company also lists Ice-type attacks among the vulnerabilities of Dragon-type Regidrago in its Pokémon GO Regidrago raid guide.
These examples establish an offensive interaction: an Ice-type move used against a Dragon-type target is favored by type effectiveness. They do not establish that an Ice-type Pokémon takes reduced damage from a Dragon-type move. That is a separate defensive question, and the current chart does not give Ice a resistance to Dragon.
Why direction and the full type combination matter
Type matchups have an attacker and a defender. “Ice is effective against Dragon” describes an Ice attack hitting a Dragon defender; “Ice resists Dragon” would describe a Dragon attack hitting an Ice defender. One statement does not imply the other.

Also check the defending Pokémon’s full type combination. A Dragon Pokémon’s secondary type can change how effective an Ice move is against it compared with a pure Dragon defender. Abilities and game-specific battle rules can further affect observed damage. The exact result therefore depends on the game, the Pokémon’s types, and the battle conditions; Pokémon GO and the main-series games should not be treated as having identical damage calculations.

That is a reasonable balance proposal, but the cited official sources document the current interaction rather than evaluating a chart change. The arguments for and against it are design considerations, not measured outcomes.

The case for adding the resistance
Giving Ice a defensive resistance to Dragon could make Ice-type Pokémon more useful when switching into Dragon attacks, rather than making Ice’s relevance depend chiefly on its offensive matchup. If that is the goal, the change would offer a clearer defensive role against Dragon teams.
The case for keeping the chart as it is
Leaving the chart unchanged preserves the distinction between Ice’s offensive advantage over Dragon and its defensive vulnerabilities. A new resistance would alter more than a single attack interaction: it could affect team-building, switching decisions, and the value of existing defensive types. Whether that would improve balance depends on the particular game and its surrounding rules.

Questions a balance proposal should answer
- Would Ice gain a meaningful defensive role, or would the resistance make some matchups too safe?
- How would the change interact with Dragon Pokémon’s secondary types and with abilities that alter damage?
- Would it improve team-building choices without disrupting the existing offensive role of Ice attacks against Dragon targets?
- Should the change apply across Pokémon games, or only in a specific game or competitive ruleset?
The current chart answers what happens today; it cannot, by itself, prove that a hypothetical resistance would make the game better. No named statistic or quantified balance assessment in the cited material settles that design question.
