Choose Onyankopon if you want a Health Balm, or Anansi if you want a Stamina Balm. The two Golden Stool quests send you against the other demon, and PowerPyx’s quest guide says the choice does not affect trophies or main-story outcomes.
What each Golden Stool choice gives you
These are two conflicting versions of the Golden Stool subquest. Choosing one means taking that demon’s side and defeating the other; the reward differs by quest.

PowerPyx reports that completing either quest also records the opposing quest as completed. The guide does not compare the balms’ usefulness for particular builds, so choose the resource that better suits your party and playstyle.
Does the choice affect the ending or trophies?
PowerPyx says this paired sidequest choice does not affect trophies or main-story outcomes. Atlus describes Vengeance as a game with consequential choices and multiple story paths, but that general premise does not establish that this particular quest changes an ending. The available quest guidance does not identify a game patch version.

Pick Onyankopon’s Reclaim the Golden Stool if a Health Balm is the more useful reward for your party, or if you prefer this side’s role-playing premise. You will fight Anansi.
Choose Anansi for the Stamina Balm
Pick Anansi’s Liberate the Golden Stool if you would rather receive a Stamina Balm, or prefer Anansi’s side of the dispute. You will fight Onyankopon.

How the game frames Anansi and Onyankopon
Atlus’ official demon reference describes Onyankopon as “A sky god of the Ashanti people and other tribes in West Africa. An alias of the supreme god Nyame, said to mean ‘the all-knowing and all-seeing.’” It describes Anansi as “A folkloric hero of the Ashanti and other tribes in West Africa. He is depicted as a trickster who gets by on his wit and cunning.” These descriptions explain their mythological framing, not a gameplay advantage for either quest.
Atlus lists Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Windows, and Steam.
