If that choice is unavailable, finish the quests and collect the items you care about in whichever settlement you might destroy. Fairfield is the default target if you leave the controls unchanged; destroying either town cuts off its remaining local content.
What happens when you choose a target?
During The Saboteur of Paradise, the Vox Relay Station’s failsafe forces you to decide where it will go. Leaving the controls unchanged sends it toward Fairfield. Guides report that you may also be able to redirect it to Westport or send it into space, but which options appear can depend on your route and prerequisites. Game8’s walkthrough and choice guide describe these outcomes.
What you lose if Fairfield is hit
Fairfield becomes inaccessible, taking its settlement quests and other local content with it. Guides also report that Inez can be lost permanently. Ethel’s lab is reported to remain, but that does not preserve the rest of Fairfield’s content. If you want to keep Fairfield’s quests or speak with Inez, complete what matters there before choosing Fairfield. PC Gamer’s choice guide also covers the consequences.
What you lose if Westport is hit
Westport and its associated quests become inaccessible. The guides identify the Adrenaline Edge Mk.3 knife as missable loot in the settlement, so collect it—and any other items you want—before redirecting the relay there. See Game8’s choice guide and PC Gamer’s guide.

Can you save both towns?
Send the relay into space
Game8 reports that Hack 4 or the Lucky trait can unlock the space trajectory. If you have that option, choosing it avoids destroying either settlement and is the clearest choice for preserving both towns’ content. Check the controls at the station rather than assuming the option will be available on every route.
Relocate Westport residents first
Another reported route is to complete Milverstreet’s quest to move Westport residents to Fairfield, then select Westport as the crash site. This reduces the civilian consequences described by the guides, but it does not save Fairfield’s settlement content. Finish Fairfield’s quests first if you want to keep access to them. Game8 and PC Gamer describe this relocation route.

How to decide if the space option is unavailable
- Check the station’s available choices. If Hack 4 or Lucky has opened the space trajectory, use it to preserve both settlements.
- Choose which town’s remaining content matters more. Consider unfinished quests, desired items, and characters you still want to meet.
- Finish and collect before committing. The guides describe the targeted settlement as becoming inaccessible, so complete its quests and pick up desired loot first.
- If you plan to target Westport after relocation, verify that Milverstreet’s quest has moved its residents to Fairfield. Fairfield itself will still be destroyed.
There is no universally best town to destroy: the answer depends on your character’s available options and what you have left to do in each settlement. The outcomes and requirements here are reported by game guides, not official developer documentation, and may be affected by game updates.
