What happens if you free Ilora or leave her in jail?

PC Gamer’s Rory Norris and Windows Central’s Samuel Tolbert both published guides on 13 February 2025, and their accounts agree on the main branches. PC Gamer says there are no other story consequences; the other guides describe the visible outcomes without asserting a broader main-story change.
Why freeing Ilora is usually the better choice
Freeing her gives you another fighter in the encounter with Ralke and preserves her assistance in Escape Plan. Leaving her behind is a role-play choice if you prefer not to help her, but expect to face her in the fight and lose her help with the smugglers. The choice does not lock you out of the route off the island.
How to free Ilora from Fort Northreach Jail
- In the jail area, climb the boxes to reach the rafters.
- Follow the rafters through the opening into the adjacent room.
- Find and take the jail key there.
- Use the key to unbar the door back to the main area, then unlock Ilora’s cell.

Does freeing Ilora change the main story?
The reported effects are confined to the immediate Ralke encounter and Ilora’s role in the later side quest. The choice does not prevent you from using her boat to reach Dawnshore, and the guides do not describe a wider main-story branch.
