Spoilers for the Epilogue Part 2 mission “American Venom.” If you spare Cleet, Sadie kills him anyway. The choice is about whether John carries out the hanging himself: pull the lever if you want him to follow through, or spare Cleet if you want John to withhold the execution. One walkthrough reports an Honor boost for sparing him, but the story outcome is reported to be unchanged.
What happens if you hang or spare Cleet?
After John, Sadie, and Charles capture Cleet in Strawberry and question him about Micah, Cleet reveals that Micah is at Mount Hagen. John then faces the choice to pull the lever or spare him. The walkthroughs consulted report that if John spares Cleet, Sadie shoots him instead. iRedDead’s mission guide and the Red Dead Wiki entry for Cleet describe this outcome.

So neither option leaves Cleet alive. Pulling the lever makes John carry out the hanging; sparing him means John does not do it, but Sadie intervenes.
Which choice should you make?
| Choice | Reported result | Best fit if… |
|---|---|---|
| Pull the lever | John hangs Cleet. | You want John to carry out the sentence personally. |
| Spare Cleet | Sadie kills Cleet afterward. One guide reports an Honor boost, without stating an amount; another says the story outcome is unchanged. | You want John to refuse to carry out the execution, even though Cleet does not survive. |
The Honor note comes from RDR2.org’s Epilogue 2 guide. The unchanged story outcome is reported by Gamer Guides’ “American Venom” walkthrough. The available guides do not provide an exact Honor value.

Does Cleet’s explanation change the decision?
Cleet says he fell out with Micah after trying to stop him from killing a little girl. That is Cleet’s account in the scene, not independent confirmation that he is innocent or redeemed. You can weigh it as part of your role-play, but the reported choice mechanics remain the same: John can hang him, or spare him and leave Sadie to kill him.
