Usually, no. Keep gear that improves your current build or offers a situational benefit you expect to use; sell the rest. Hogwarts Legacy keeps collected gear appearances available after the original item is sold or destroyed, so you do not need to hold onto a weak piece just because you like how it looks.
How to decide what gear to keep
- Compare the item’s stats and trait with what you have equipped. Keep the piece that best serves your current build.
- Keep a spare only for a useful alternative. For example, a different trait may suit a situation you expect to encounter. Gear usefulness can depend on your progress and preferences, so there is no universal ranking for every character.
- Sell the rest at a shop. Unwanted gear takes up limited inventory space, and selling it frees room while earning currency.
Gear appearance is separate from its stats
You can change the appearance of equipped gear without replacing its stats. Open the relevant gear slot and choose the on-screen Change Appearance prompt; button inputs vary by platform. What to check before selling a piece
- Current stats: Check whether it improves on the item you are using.
- Trait: Consider whether its effect is useful for your play style or a planned alternative.
- Rarity: Rarity is associated with possible stats, upgradeability, trait-slot level, and sale value, but inspect the individual item rather than relying on its label alone.
- Inventory space: If you need room for new drops and the piece has no practical advantage, selling is the straightforward choice.
The Hogwarts Legacy community wiki lists sale values of 30, 60, 90, 150, and 200 Galleons across its five rarity tiers, from Standard through Legendary. Can you store gear instead?
The cited GameSpot guide reports that gear inventory is limited and that the game has no separate overworld chest or wardrobe for storing unwanted gear. Merlin Trials can increase your inventory capacity, but they add slots rather than providing a separate storage space: GameSpot’s inventory guide.
