Play Batman: Arkham Asylum first, then Batman: Arkham City. Warner Bros. Games identifies Asylum as the first installment in the Arkham series and describes City as its follow-up, so that order lets you begin with the original game before moving to its sequel.
Why Asylum comes first
Batman: Arkham Asylum was released in 2009. DC lists it as an action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady and published by Warner Bros. Interactive, originally for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Warner Bros. Games calls it the first installment in the Arkham series.
