Where the choice happens
During Spread Your Wings in Roscree, you meet Vidar and Self, a masked member of the Children of Morrigan. You can defend Vidar or hand him over to Self. Each option sets a different direction for the quest.
What happens if you save Vidar?
Choosing to defend Vidar starts a fight against the Children of Morrigan. Afterward, A Crow Left of A Murder becomes available, beginning a quest chain aimed at eliminating the faction.
What happens if you give Vidar to Self?
Handing Vidar over lets the Children take him without a fight. You join the organization as a Hatchling, and No Place For Strays begins.

Which option should you choose?
Choose based on the allegiance and quest direction you want, rather than looking for a hidden correct answer. Save Vidar to oppose the Children and pursue the anti-faction chain; give him to Self to join the organization and take its branch. The available guide does not compare the complete rewards for both routes or establish a best outcome for any particular build.
What is known about rewards and later consequences?
A community-maintained wiki search result lists 750 XP for Spread Your Wings and associates the Vidar route with Collateral Blade and Crow’s Set (Melee Crit), and the Children route with Hatchling Set. Because the wiki page could not be opened for verification, treat those reward details as provisional and check them in your current game before relying on a precise comparison.

The conflict continues into the Forlorn Swords region, which the VGTimes guide says becomes available after the Grail Cycle quest. That information does not establish the full ending consequences of this early decision.

The VGTimes guide describes the Children as a secretive faction that targets influential people they consider harmful to Avalon’s residents, and says Vidar was once a member before becoming disillusioned. That is the faction’s framing, not proof that either side is morally right.
