Yes. If the HDMI cable included with your PS5 is undamaged and long enough to reach your display, use it. Sony recommends the supplied HDMI 2.1 cable for the console’s high-performance features, and says older HDMI cables can also be used. You do not need to replace a working cable just because it came in the box.
When the included cable is the right choice
For most setups, the supplied cable is the straightforward default. Sony’s picture and sound troubleshooting guidance recommends using the HDMI 2.1 cable included with the PS5. The PS5 setup guide shows it connected from the console’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI IN port on the TV.
If the cable is missing, damaged, or too short, a replacement is reasonable. Choose one suited to the resolution and refresh rate you want to use. Sony says older HDMI cables can work too, but that does not mean every older cable supports every video mode.
What you need for 4K at 120 Hz
A suitable cable alone does not guarantee 4K/120 Hz. Sony’s resolution guidance says to check that the TV supports 4K at 120 Hz, its firmware is current, and the PS5 is connected to an HDMI port that supports the mode. The settings on the display and console, as well as equipment between them, can also affect the signal.

Should you buy another HDMI cable?
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| The included cable works and reaches the display | Keep using it; Sony recommends the supplied cable. |
| The included cable is damaged or missing | Use a suitable replacement. For 4K/120 Hz, select an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for that mode. |
| The included cable is too short | Use a longer cable that supports the resolution and refresh rate you need. Sony’s guidance does not establish a universal ideal length. |
| You want to use an older cable | It may work, but its supported video modes depend on the cable and the rest of the setup. |
There is no general reason to buy a particular brand or model if the supplied cable works for your setup. Consider replacing it for a concrete need—such as damage, insufficient length, or inability to support the output mode you want.

What to check if the picture or sound is wrong
- Confirm the cable is firmly connected to the PS5’s HDMI OUT port and a suitable HDMI IN port on the display.
- Check that the TV or monitor is set to the input used by the PS5.
- If you are trying to use 4K/120 Hz, verify display support, current display firmware, the correct HDMI port, and the relevant console and display settings.
- Temporarily connect the PS5 directly to the screen, bypassing a receiver, sound bar, switch, or capture device. Sony recommends this test because equipment in the signal path may affect the picture or sound.
- If the issue remains, try another cable or HDMI port if one is available to help identify the source of the problem.
