Change hosts when your site has repeated, measurable problems that remain after you have ruled out application-level causes. Recurring outages, slow server responses after optimization, ineffective support, weak backup or security practices, exhausted resources, poor renewal value, or no workable way to leave are stronger evidence than one isolated error.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
For a video-game site, make the decision against real operating conditions: patch-day traffic, large media files, account logins, forums, downloads, scheduled jobs and transactional email. A careful, staged migration can move the site with little or no user-visible interruption, but no provider can promise one universal downtime duration for every DNS, email and database setup.

What counts as a real reason to switch
A host change is justified when a problem is recurring, observable and attributable to the hosting service rather than to your code or content-management setup. Keep an incident log with timestamps, affected URLs, response codes, support tickets and monitoring results. One brief 500 error or a single busy period is not enough by itself; a pattern that the provider cannot explain or correct is.
Repeated unexplained downtime or server errors
Look for outages that recur across different days, vague explanations, missing incident details or a status page that does not reflect what visitors experienced. Compare your own uptime and error logs with the host’s notifications. If the same database connection failures, gateway errors or whole-site outages keep returning after the host says they are fixed, the reliability problem is operational, not merely cosmetic.

Ask for a written incident explanation, root cause, corrective action and expected completion date. A provider that can show a clear post-incident record and prevent recurrence may still be suitable. Repeated incidents with no diagnosis, timeline or preventive work are a strong reason to evaluate alternatives.
Persistent slowness after you diagnose the site
First separate front-end weight from server performance. Review the theme or template, plugins and extensions, custom code, image sizes, third-party scripts, caching and database queries. A bloated theme or excessive plugins will remain slow after a migration, so moving hosts is not a substitute for fixing those causes.
After optimization, measure server response during ordinary use and at the peaks that matter to you, such as a major game release, tournament announcement or livestream. If response remains consistently poor while the application is otherwise healthy, compare the host’s CPU contention, storage performance, caching options and plan limits. Preserve the measurements and test from more than one network so a local connection is not mistaken for a server fault.
Support that cannot resolve incidents
Fast replies are not the same as useful support. A workable support process should identify the affected service, request the relevant logs, explain what was changed and give you a way to verify the fix. Escalations that simply repeat scripted advice, close tickets without a diagnosis or provide no resolution window indicate a service mismatch.
Before signing with another host, test its actual channels and technical depth. Ask who handles database corruption, mail delivery, DNS mistakes and resource throttling; find out whether urgent incidents can be escalated and how progress is communicated. Support quality is part of uptime because a small configuration error can become a long outage when nobody owns the fix.

Security or backup gaps
Hosting risk is not limited to a hacked administrator password. Check whether the provider patches the operating system and control panel, isolates accounts, detects malware and responds promptly when an incident is reported. Determine what is backed up, how often, where copies are stored and whether you can restore a complete site rather than only individual files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan. You need an export you can download and a documented, tested restore path for files, databases, uploaded game media and configuration. If backups are absent, inaccessible, untested or retained for too short a period, treat that as a reason to move or add independent protection immediately.
Resource ceilings and failed scaling
Repeated CPU or RAM throttling, full storage, process limits, database connection caps or unexplained 503 responses show that the current plan no longer fits the site. Review the host’s actual limits and your usage during normal and peak periods. A plan may advertise generous traffic while imposing a small number of concurrent processes or database connections that becomes the real bottleneck.
Ask how capacity can be added, what an upgrade changes, how quickly it takes effect and whether your software can move to that tier without a redesign. If the only remedy is an expensive jump, a long migration project or an uncertain exception from support, compare hosts with a clearer growth path.
Renewal pricing that no longer matches service
Use the next renewal invoice—not the introductory offer—as your baseline. Add required backups, security tools, extra storage, email accounts, migration charges and any long-term contract commitment. Then compare those recurring costs with the reliability, support, capacity and recovery controls you actually receive.

A lower price is not automatically better if it removes tested backups or leaves you with weaker support. Conversely, paying more for unused capacity does not create value. Make the decision from the complete renewal cost and the service level attached to it.
No practical exit path
Portability is a feature you should verify before you need it. You should be able to download your files and databases, control the domain and DNS records, retrieve certificates or recreate them, and cancel without losing access to essential data. Confirm who owns the registrar account, where email is hosted and whether the provider will assist with an export.
If a host will not explain migration responsibilities, restricts exports or keeps domain control in its own account, the lock-in itself is a warning sign. Choose an arrangement in which you can leave on a documented schedule.
Rule out an application problem before blaming the host
Changing infrastructure cannot repair inefficient software. Work through these checks and record the result before making a final decision:
- Disable or replace unneeded plugins, extensions and background jobs, then retest the slow pages.
- Inspect templates, custom code and third-party scripts for expensive queries or blocking requests.
- Compress oversized images and video thumbnails; verify that caching and content delivery settings are working as intended.
- Review database indexes, table growth, failed queries and connection usage.
- Compare a static page with a dynamic page. If both are slow, the server or network is more likely involved; if only dynamic requests lag, investigate the application and database.
- Check whether the issue appears only during a known traffic surge. If so, capture resource graphs and request rates for the host rather than guessing.
| Observed symptom | Application checks | Evidence that points to the host |
|---|---|---|
| Pages render slowly | Theme, plugins, code, images, cache and database queries | High server response time remains after those checks, across multiple networks and pages |
| Intermittent 5xx errors | Recent deployments, broken integrations, application and database logs | Errors continue with no code change and coincide with resource throttling or infrastructure incidents |
| Site fails at peak traffic | Query efficiency, caching and request volume | CPU, RAM, process or connection limits are reached and the plan cannot be expanded reasonably |
How to compare replacement hosts
Make a side-by-side sheet and require written answers. The important comparison is not a headline feature; it is how the service behaves when your game community is active and something breaks.

A safe, staged migration sequence
Google Search Central’s hosting-change guidance starts with “Prepare the new hosting infrastructure.” Treat the move as a parallel build, not a single switch.
- Inventory the current service. List every domain and subdomain, DNS record, email mailbox and forwarding rule, database, cron job, runtime or PHP version, SSL certificate, integration, webhook, redirect and scheduled task. Confirm that you can access the registrar, DNS provider, old host and application administrator accounts.
- Create an independent backup. Download a complete copy of site files and databases and keep it outside the old host. Record the backup date, file sizes and database export method. Do not treat a host snapshot you cannot download as your only copy.
- Prepare the new infrastructure. Create the accounts, databases, runtime versions, users, permissions, SSL setup, mailboxes and required scheduled jobs. Match versions deliberately; a silent runtime change can break a game database or plugin even when the files copied correctly.
- Upload and import a test copy. Restore the files and database, update connection settings, confirm permissions and use a temporary hostname or hosts-file test. Keep the old site live while you work.
- Run a functional test. Open representative pages, search and navigation; submit forms; test account registration and login; verify redirects, payment or donation flows, downloads, media playback, database writes, outbound and inbound email, SSL on every hostname and each scheduled job. Check logs for warnings and failed requests.
- Lower DNS TTL in advance when appropriate. A shorter TTL can make a planned cutover easier, but DNS resolvers and email systems do not all behave identically. Record the original value so you can restore it later.
- Freeze or synchronize changing data. For forums, user accounts, comments or other frequently written databases, schedule a brief maintenance window or perform a final synchronized export. Announce only a window you can support.
- Change DNS to the new infrastructure. Update the necessary A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and related records rather than changing nameservers blindly. Recheck DNS from several networks and confirm that the new certificate covers every public hostname.
- Monitor both environments. Keep the old account active during propagation. Compare access logs, error logs, order or login activity, DNS answers and Search Console crawl signals. Watch for users or Googlebot receiving different content, redirects or errors.
- Retire the old host only after traffic moves. Preserve the final backup and records, verify that legitimate traffic and mail have reached the new service, then cancel the old account. Keep cancellation confirmation and export evidence.
Downtime, DNS and search visibility
There is no universal downtime duration. The result depends on the DNS provider, TTL behavior, nameserver changes, email records, database synchronization and whether the new site was tested before cutover. A staged build and parallel monitoring reduce risk more reliably than a generic promise of “instant” migration.
Google reports that a temporary crawl-rate drop can occur immediately after a hosting change, with recovery over the following days. That is different from sustained ranking damage caused by inaccessible pages, incorrect redirects, slow responses or inconsistent content. Keep URLs and internal links stable, return the correct status codes, maintain SSL and monitor Search Console while DNS settles.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Email deserves separate attention. Web traffic may appear healthy while an overlooked MX record, mailbox, SPF-related setting or forwarding rule fails. Inventory every address and test sending and receiving from outside the migrated domain before closing the old service.
What to do when the migration goes wrong
Visitors still reach the old site
Check authoritative DNS answers, nameserver delegation and TTLs from multiple networks. Do not delete the old account to force the change; mixed resolution is expected until caches expire. Keep both environments capable of serving the site during that period.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
The new site shows database or application errors
Compare runtime versions, database credentials, hostnames, permissions, extensions and character-set settings. Restore the known-good backup if a partial import is suspect, then repeat the test before changing public DNS again.
HTTPS warnings appear
Verify that the certificate is installed on the new server, includes every hostname and renews automatically. Check redirects from HTTP to HTTPS and test both the apex domain and the www form if both are published.
Forms, logins or payments fail
Inspect application secrets, callback URLs, session storage, firewall rules and outbound network permissions. A page loading successfully does not prove that writes, authentication or third-party callbacks work.
Scheduled tasks stop running
Recreate cron jobs with the correct runtime path, environment variables, permissions and time zone. Run one manually, inspect its log output and confirm that it cannot execute twice during the overlap.
Search traffic drops sharply
Use Search Console and server logs to identify crawl errors, slow responses, blocked paths, redirect chains or content differences. Correct access problems first and leave the old host available until crawlers and users consistently receive the new site.
A go-or-stay checklist
Switching is usually warranted when most of these statements are true:

- Support cannot provide a diagnosis, owner, timeline or durable fix.
- Backups, patching, account isolation or incident response do not meet your recovery needs.
- Resource limits are reached during normal or peak activity and the upgrade path is unsuitable.
- The renewal invoice and add-ons no longer represent fair value.
- You have confirmed a replacement’s reliability, support, security, capacity, total cost and portability in writing.
- You possess an independent backup and can control DNS, the domain and every email account.
If only one minor issue appears and the host offers a specific corrective plan, give that plan a deadline and measure the result. If several conditions persist, a controlled migration is safer than waiting for the next outage, traffic spike or expired backup to make the decision for you.
