Wikipedia’s English-language article for the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake was reportedly restricted in October 2024 after disruptive edits altered review scores. GameSpot reported that the page showed a Metacritic score of 27/100 instead of the then-current 87/100, and changed GameSpot critic Mark Delaney’s 9/10 review to 2/10. The correct scores had been restored by the time GameSpot published its report.
What happened to the Silent Hill 2 remake’s Wikipedia page?
The dispute concerned the game’s reception section, which listed review scores and aggregator ratings. In October 2024, GameSpot reported that users had vandalized the displayed scores and that Wikipedia locked down the article. Game8 described the page as semi-protected around the same time. Those accounts indicate that editing was restricted during the incident, but they do not establish the page’s protection status today.

Does the page remain locked?
The October 2024 coverage supports saying that the article was locked down or semi-protected during the incident. It does not confirm whether those restrictions remain in place. The reports also do not identify who made the edits or establish their motive, so claims that a specific group acted to change the scores go beyond what those sources verify.

The reported edits changed how review information appeared on Wikipedia; they did not change the reviews or the scores published by Metacritic and GameSpot. A displayed score altered on an encyclopedia page should therefore not be mistaken for a change to the underlying rating. The available accounts document this particular episode, not a broader pattern or the identities and intentions of the editors involved.
