There is no proven universal tier list: standard weapons trade damage, speed, reach, durability and availability, and the game deliberately withholds precise damage values. This ranking separates first-run weapons from Dark Shrine and New Game+ options rather than treating them as interchangeable.
How to read this ranking
This is a practical ranking based on qualitative guide assessments, weapon characteristics and availability—not controlled damage testing. Silent Hill f does not publish precise weapon damage values, and player impressions about several weapons conflict. A weapon that deals more damage per opening may still be a poor everyday choice if it is slow, short-ranged or costly to maintain.

Standard Ebisugaoka weapons lose durability through hits and blocks; at zero durability, they break and cannot be used. Toolkits can repair them before they break. That trade-off is intentional: game director Al Yang described the melee-only combat as a way to make resource management visible through weapons breaking in PlayStation.Blog’s March 11, 2026 interview. Focus and counters also affect what counts as a good weapon: Focus consumes Sanity, can slow time and extend a counter opportunity, while a Focus Attack deals significant damage at the cost of Max Sanity, according to a PlayStation.Blog Japan hands-on report.
First-run standard weapons, ranked by practical use
1. Kitchen Knife — best for burst damage
TrueTrophies describes the Kitchen Knife as exceptionally damaging, while the fan reference classifies it as a light, frail weapon. It is a strong choice when you want to make a short opening count, but its low durability makes it a risky default for long stretches. Treat it as a damage option to use selectively, not as a universally best weapon.
#1 Best Overall

- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years

2. Sledgehammer and Axe — heavy hitters without a settled winner
Both are later-game heavy options highlighted by Game8. TrueTrophies judges the Axe similar to the Sledgehammer but slightly faster; that is a guide assessment, not a measured comparison. Player discussion disagrees about their relative damage and stun behavior, so choose based on your preference for heavy attacks and the openings you can safely create rather than a supposedly exact damage order.
3. Baseball Bat — condition changes its role
TrueTrophies says the Bat behaves like a Steel Pipe until it falls below half durability, then more like a Kitchen Knife. That makes its usefulness state-dependent: it may suit you early in its durability cycle, but as it wears down its role and maintenance risk change. The behavior is reported by a guide, not established as an official damage formula.
4. Sickle — a middle ground, with less staying power
The fan reference describes the Sickle as less durable than the Steel Pipe but reasonably damaging. It can be a useful compromise when you want more damage than the Pipe’s guide-described low output without committing to a heavy weapon. Its reduced durability means more attention to repair and replacement.
Rank #2
- Brand new UK Import PAL version. Game in English.
5. Crowbar — familiar utility, limited advantage
The fan reference characterizes the Crowbar as a shorter Steel Pipe. That makes it a situational fallback rather than an obvious upgrade: consider it when it is what you have, but do not assume it wins on reach or damage.
6. Steel Pipe — dependable, but low damage
Guide descriptions characterize the Pipe as durable and low-damage. Its staying power can be useful when conserving better options, but durability alone does not make it the strongest weapon if fights are taking too long or exposing you to more attacks.
Dark Shrine weapons: a separate context
Dark Shrine weapons should not be folded into the first-run standard ranking. Some are limited to those sections and do not use the standard durability parameter. The PlayStation hands-on report specifically identifies the Kaiken and Naginata as Otherworld weapons without durability, so their trade-offs differ from a weapon that can break in ordinary combat.

- Enhanced for PS5 Pro
Fox Arm — strongest late-game all-round candidate
Game8 highlights the Fox Arm’s speed, damage and finishing power; TrueTrophies also praises its damage and unlimited durability. Those guide judgments make it a strong late-game choice where it is available, but it is not a fair measure of early standard weapons. Al Yang has described the fox arm as a combat “master key,” a deliberate release from the usual rhythm, in the developer interview.
Naginata — useful reach, but not ranked against standard weapons
The Naginata is listed among Dark Shrine weapons, and the hands-on report establishes that it does not have standard durability. The available evidence does not establish a reliable comparative damage or speed placement against the standard roster, so it is more useful to treat it as a context-specific option than to assign it a definitive tier.

Kaiken — short and weak by guide assessment
The fan reference describes the Kaiken as a short, weak ceremonial dagger. Its lack of standard durability is a meaningful difference, but does not by itself make it a better damage choice. It is a Dark Shrine option, not a substitute for a first-run standard weapon.
Rank #4

- first silent hill game on PS3
- All new next gen graphics bring silent hill to life like never before
- solve treacherous and deadly puzzles to learn dark secrets
- features an all new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka
Lantern — not established as a conventional damage pick
The fan reference lists the Lantern as a weapon, but the sources do not establish that it competes with the melee weapons as a conventional damage option. It therefore does not belong in a damage ranking on the evidence available.

Sacred Sword — durability that recovers while sheathed
The Sacred Sword is a New Game+ acquisition. In its unpurified form, it recovers durability while sheathed as Hinako attacks with other weapons, creating a special rotation-based use rather than simply replacing every other weapon. The fan reference says purification is required for certain endings, so players pursuing those endings should account for that progression requirement.
Purified Sacred Sword — progression trade-off
According to the fan reference, purification weakens the Sacred Sword and removes its self-repair effect. That changes its practical value: the unpurified form has the documented recovery mechanic, while purification is tied to certain endings. The available sources do not provide a controlled comparison of its damage against other weapons.

PP-8001 — strength and blade length depend on the clear save
The PP-8001’s blade length and strength depend on how many endings are recorded on the clear save, according to the fan reference. It does not become unusable at zero durability; its blade shortens instead. That makes it a later-run weapon whose performance is tied to prior completion, not a fixed entry in a first-run tier list.
Quick picks by player priority
- Want a strong late-game all-rounder? Choose the Fox Arm when it becomes available; guide recommendations praise its speed, damage and durability.
- Want high damage in a short opening? Use the Kitchen Knife, while keeping its fragility in mind.
- Prefer heavy attacks? Try the Axe or Sledgehammer; the sources do not settle which is categorically stronger.
- Want durability in a standard weapon? The Steel Pipe is guide-described as durable, but its damage is also described as low.
- Playing a later run? Consider the Sacred Sword or PP-8001 on their own terms; their special rules and availability make first-run comparisons misleading.
Why there is no exact damage tier list
The game intentionally leaves damage values unclear, and the evidence available does not include an attributable, controlled weapon-damage dataset. The GameFAQs discussion about medium and heavy weapons contains conflicting player impressions, including a report about the Bat changing as it degrades. That discussion is useful evidence that player experience varies, not authority for a definitive ordering. The most reliable decision is therefore situational: weigh each weapon’s reported damage against speed, reach, durability, repair burden and whether it is available in your current section or run.
