Singularity 6 raised a reported $30 million in Series B funding in July 2021 as it prepared its debut game, Palia—a shared-world fantasy community simulation pitched around cooperation and everyday activities rather than combat. The game did not launch immediately: it entered open beta on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023, later reached PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and was still receiving publisher-announced updates in 2026.
Who funded Singularity 6?
TechCrunch reported on July 1, 2021 that Singularity 6 raised $30 million in a Series B led by FunPlus Ventures. Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), LVP, Transcend, Anthos Capital, and Mitch Lasky also participated.
TechCrunch said the studio had disclosed about $49 million in total funding at that point, including a $16.5 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in 2019. These are figures reported by TechCrunch, not independently audited financial disclosures.
What is Palia?
In a June 2022 FAQ, Singularity 6 described Palia as a massively multiplayer community simulation in a new high-fantasy world, with open-world adventure elements. Its listed activities included hunting, bug catching, gardening, cooking, fishing, mining, foraging, and crafting furniture.

At the time, the studio said combat would not be the game’s core focus, described its world as low-pressure, and said players could opt out of combat-like adventures. It also said player-versus-player combat was not planned. That was the studio’s design intent in 2022; the game and its content have since evolved.
TechCrunch compared the concept to a community simulation with Animal Crossing-like mechanics in an MMO setting. That was the publication’s analogy, not an official genre label from Singularity 6.

When did Palia launch?
The 2021 funding story presented Palia as Singularity 6’s upcoming debut, with players able to sign up for pre-alpha access alerts. The subsequent timeline shows why “readies launch” should be read as the funding story’s framing, not as a release date:
- June 16, 2022: Singularity 6 said the game had no announced release date and remained in active development.
- 2023: Palia entered open beta on PC and Nintendo Switch.
- July 2, 2024: Singularity 6 announced its acquisition by Daybreak Game Company and said work toward a 1.0 launch would continue.
- 2025: The game expanded to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- 2026: Daybreak continued announcing updates and new content.
The reviewed official announcements establish the start of open beta and the 2024 goal of reaching 1.0, but do not establish whether a formal 1.0 release had occurred by October 8, 2026. Open beta and 1.0 are distinct milestones; the available statements do not resolve the latter’s status.

Is Palia free to play, and what platforms support it?
Daybreak described Palia as free-to-play in its April 15, 2025 console announcement. Its latest reviewed publisher materials list PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and GeForce Now. Daybreak said the PS5 and Xbox versions support cross-platform play alongside Switch and PC.
In that 2025 announcement, Daybreak reported more than 6 million players, more than 24 content updates since initial release, and more than 800 housing decor items. Those figures describe the publisher’s account as of April 15, 2025.

The core promise was a shared fantasy world where players could pursue domestic, creative, and exploratory activities without making combat the central attraction. By 2026, Daybreak’s update plans also emphasized group activities and continuing additions to the world. The shift is from a launch-era design pitch to a live game with evolving content, not evidence that the original emphasis was a promise of permanently static gameplay.
On April 15, 2025, Singularity 6 CEO and co-founder Anthony Leung called the console expansion “a huge milestone” and said the team could put Palia into players’ hands “no matter where they are.” The statement accompanied the move to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, not the game’s initial release.
On August 21, 2026, Daybreak announced a season of free updates beginning August 26. The publisher listed shared Civic Projects, relationship quests, enhanced camera tools, server capacity expansions, and planned October and November content. Maxwell Zierath, Palia’s director of production, described the season as bringing the global community together through shared projects, photography, and a haunted house for friends to explore.
What does the player-count milestone mean?
Daybreak reported more than 10 million players globally on April 21, 2026. That is a publisher-reported cumulative player milestone, not an active-user count or an independent audit. It indicates the scale Daybreak attributed to the game, but does not by itself show how many people were playing at that time.
