sizerhook.dll is associated with older TechSmith Camtasia Studio and Camtasia installations, not with Windows itself. If Camtasia says sizerhook.dll is missing, cannot be loaded, or is invalid, repair the Camtasia installation that the shortcut is launching rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is described in public file records as a Camtasia window sizing hook. Historical listings commonly identify a 32-bit build as version 8.4.0.1699, but that information does not establish what every older Camtasia installation used, and it is not proof that current Camtasia releases still include the file.

Fix 1: Repair Camtasia from Installed apps
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
A missing or damaged application DLL is most often caused by an incomplete update, damaged installation, cleanup software, or an interrupted uninstall. Camtasia’s repair option can restore files from the installed program package without requiring a random DLL download.

- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Find Camtasia in the list.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify or Repair, if either option is available.
- Follow the repair wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Camtasia from the Start menu and test it.
If the program starts normally, the repair restored the application files or corrected the installation registration. If the error remains, continue to the reinstall procedure below.

If Camtasia does not appear in Installed apps, or the entry has no repair option, use the original Camtasia installer for the affected version. Do not assume that installing a newer version will repair an older one.
Fix 2: Reinstall the affected Camtasia version
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Reinstalling Camtasia is the most reliable way to replace sizerhook.dll. Use an official TechSmith installer or a legitimate previous-version installer that matches the Camtasia installation producing the error.
Before uninstalling, preserve your Camtasia projects, recordings, and custom libraries. Removing library files during an uninstall can permanently delete them.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Locate the affected Camtasia version.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- If Windows does not list it, open Control Panel.
- Select Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select Camtasia and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after the uninstall finishes.
- Download the installer from TechSmith’s official Camtasia download or previous-version resources.
- Install the same major version if you need to keep using an older project workflow or license.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch Camtasia from the Start menu.
If Camtasia opens after reinstalling, the original copy was probably missing, corrupted, quarantined, or mismatched with the executable.
Installing a newer Camtasia version does not necessarily overwrite an older version. Multiple versions can remain installed, so a desktop shortcut may still launch an old copy after you install a current release.
Fix 3: Check which Camtasia executable the shortcut uses
Time needed: 3–10 minutes
A shortcut can continue pointing to an older Camtasia installation that no longer has all its files.
- Right-click the Camtasia shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect the Target field.
- Note the folder and executable named there.
- Select Open File Location, if available.
- Check whether the target belongs to the Camtasia version you intended to use.
- Close the Properties window.
- Open Camtasia from the Start menu instead of the old shortcut.
If the Start menu version works, delete the obsolete shortcut and create a new one from the working executable. If both launchers show the same error, repair or reinstall that specific Camtasia installation.
Do not copy sizerhook.dll from one Camtasia folder into another unless the vendor’s installer places it there. The exact installation directory can vary by version and installation choice.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
If the error appeared immediately after an antivirus scan or security cleanup, Windows Security may have quarantined the file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Inspect recent detections.
- Open any entry that shows the original path of
sizerhook.dll. - Compare that path with the legitimate Camtasia installation directory.
- Check the detection details and publisher information.
Restore or allow the file only when you can verify that it came from a legitimate TechSmith installation and was not part of an unofficial or modified Camtasia copy. If you cannot verify its provenance, leave it quarantined and reinstall Camtasia from an official installer.
Restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the computer again, and Windows Security may detect it a second time. Reinstalling the application is safer than manually restoring an uncertain file.

Time needed: 5–20 minutes
sizerhook.dll is associated with legacy Camtasia builds, while current Camtasia releases are 64-bit and target modern Windows versions. An older Camtasia version may not be supported on the Windows build currently installed.
Check these details:
- Open Settings → System → About.
- Note the System type, such as 64-bit operating system.
- Open Camtasia’s shortcut Properties and inspect its target path.
- Determine which Camtasia version the executable belongs to.
- Compare that version with TechSmith’s Windows compatibility information.
- If the old release is unsupported, install a supported Camtasia version where your license permits it.
- If you must retain the old release, use TechSmith’s previous-version resources and confirm that your Windows version is supported.
A commonly indexed historical copy of sizerhook.dll is 32-bit. That does not mean every historical Camtasia build used the same binary, and a 32-bit file should not be placed into a 64-bit application directory as a guess.
If Windows reports that the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect a damaged, wrong-architecture, mismatched, or tampered copy. Replace it through the Camtasia installer rather than downloading another copy.
Fix 6: Install a runtime only when the error identifies it
Time needed: 5–20 minutes
Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET do not normally provide the TechSmith-owned sizerhook.dll. Reinstalling them at random will not usually restore this file.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Use this check instead:
- Read the complete error message.
- Look for a separately named component, such as a specific Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET version.
- Check Camtasia’s installer messages for a prerequisite that failed.
- Install or repair only the runtime specifically identified.
- Restart Windows and test Camtasia.
If the only named file is sizerhook.dll, repair or reinstall Camtasia. If the message says “the specified module could not be found” even though the file is present, a dependency may be missing. The application repair remains the correct first step.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components when other programs also fail
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use Windows repair commands only when several unrelated applications are failing, Windows updates are damaged, or you have broader evidence of system corruption. These commands do not normally recreate a private Camtasia DLL.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry Camtasia repair or launch Camtasia again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. System File Checker checks protected Windows system files. Because sizerhook.dll is not established as a protected Windows file, SFC will generally not recreate it.
If you repeatedly run these commands without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing what it identifies before any repair is applied; the full version performs the repair. Camtasia’s own reinstall remains the definitive fix when this particular application file is missing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 8: Update drivers only when the symptoms point to a driver
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
A graphics or capture-driver problem can cause Camtasia to crash, but it does not normally install or restore sizerhook.dll. Treat driver updates as a secondary step when Camtasia fails during preview, recording, rendering, or display initialization rather than at the DLL-loading stage.
To check drivers manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat for relevant audio, camera, or capture devices.
- Restart Windows and test Camtasia.
If you need help hunting through several hardware vendors and driver versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; the full version installs updates. Do not treat a driver update as a substitute for reinstalling Camtasia when sizerhook.dll itself is missing.
Do not use regsvr32 as a default DLL fix
Time needed: Not applicable
Do not run this command merely because the filename ends in .dll:
regsvr32 sizerhook.dll
Microsoft’s regsvr32 utility is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A private Camtasia helper DLL may not support registration.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you see an error such as “entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found,” that does not prove the file is corrupt. It usually means the DLL was not designed to be registered this way. Camtasia should load its own helper files from its installation rather than from Windows’ global DLL directories.
Why downloading sizerhook.dll is risky
Avoid DLL download sites websites, automated DLL repair utilities, and instructions that tell you to copy the file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
A downloaded file may:
- Contain malware or unwanted modifications
- Be the wrong version for your Camtasia executable
- Have the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Lack the dependencies required by the application
- Leave the damaged installation unresolved
- Cause future updates or security scans to fail
The safe source is the official Camtasia installer from TechSmith. If a file was quarantined, verify its original path and provenance before restoring it. Do not whitelist an unknown copy simply because its filename matches.
If reinstalling Camtasia does not help
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
Work out exactly what is launching the error.
- Check every Camtasia shortcut’s Properties → Target.
- Search the Camtasia installation directories for duplicate copies of
sizerhook.dll. - Confirm that the executable and DLL belong to the same installation.
- Check Event Viewer:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Review errors recorded at the time Camtasia failed.
- Note the Camtasia version, exact error text, executable path, and any named dependency.
- Run a full Windows Security scan if the file appears in an unofficial or altered installation.
- Contact TechSmith with the version information and installer logs.
If the error names a dependency rather than sizerhook.dll, repair that dependency after confirming it from the complete error message. If only the legacy DLL remains at issue, the Camtasia version may be incompatible with the current Windows release.

FAQ
Is sizerhook.dll a Windows system file?
No. Available evidence associates it with older TechSmith Camtasia software. It should normally be located with Camtasia, not copied into System32.
Which program displays the error?
The expected program is Camtasia Studio or an older Camtasia Editor installation. A shortcut, launcher, or associated process may display the message, so check the executable path if the source is unclear.
Is sizerhook.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
A commonly indexed historical copy is 32-bit. Do not assume that every Camtasia version used that exact architecture or file build.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Only when the complete error or Camtasia installer specifically identifies one of those components. They do not normally install sizerhook.dll.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally no. A Camtasia helper DLL may not expose the registration entry point that regsvr32 requires.
Can I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Only after verifying that the original path belonged to a legitimate TechSmith installation and that the detection was a false positive. When uncertain, leave it quarantined and reinstall Camtasia.
What if the file exists but Camtasia still cannot load it?
The file may be damaged, incompatible, the wrong architecture, or missing a dependency. Repair the matching Camtasia installation, inspect duplicate copies and the shortcut target, then review Event Viewer for the failing executable.
