EA acknowledged the launch disruption two days later. The million-plus figure it published was for playtest sign-ups, not people waiting to enter the game.
What happened when skate. launched?
EA and developer Full Circle released skate. into Early Access on September 16, 2025. It launched as a free-to-play, online multiplayer game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and the EA app. EA described cross-platform play and cross-progression as features of the release. EA’s launch announcement gives the release details.

On September 18, 2025, the Skate Team’s official EA Forums Known Issues Status listed long login queues and server issues. The team said, “So many of you have joined us in San Vansterdam that our team needs to make more room for everyone. You may experience queues in the meantime, and we’re hoping to fix that soon.” This confirms a genuine access problem during launch; it does not establish how many people were waiting or whether no one could get in.
Was the queue over one million players?
The official launch-era evidence cited here does not verify a queue of more than one million people. One Reddit commenter reported being at position 989,015, while other users described waits such as being stuck for 30 minutes. These are individual reports, not an official total, and a reported queue position does not establish the number of distinct people in the queue or how many were unable to enter.

The million-plus figure associated with skate. refers to something else: EA reported more than 1 million playtest sign-ups in 2025. Sign-ups before Early Access are not a count of launch-day players waiting to log in. EA’s playtest milestone announcement is the source for that figure.
Does the launch report describe the situation now?
No. The queue statement is a dated status post from September 18, 2025, not a live service-status report. It documents problems around launch, but it does not establish whether players are experiencing queues on October 8, 2026. Nor do the cited sources provide an exact peak queue size, a complete account of how long each player waited or confirmation that every player was blocked.

What PC players need to know
EA’s September 12, 2025 Early Access requirements said keyboard and mouse were not supported on PC and that a controller was required. EA listed PS4 DualShock, PS5 DualSense, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers as examples, along with DualSense Edge and Xbox Elite V1/V2. Check EA’s PC requirements for current guidance; these are dated Early Access specifications.
This requirement only matters if you plan to play on PC and do not already have a compatible controller. It is not a reason for console players—or PC players with a suitable controller—to buy another one. EA’s September 2025 requirements also listed macOS, Linux and Steam Deck as unsupported at that time; those dated details should not be treated as a statement of current compatibility.

What kind of game is skate.?
EA describes skate. as a free-to-play, always-online multiplayer skateboarding sandbox. Its FAQ notes that Early Access is still under development, so players should expect bugs and other issues. See EA’s skate. FAQ for its description and access information.
