Insider Gaming reported that it was a PC-only test scheduled for February 6 to March 19, 2024, although the report’s opening sentence gives a conflicting start date of February 8. When did the Skate playtest run?
Insider Gaming’s January 31, 2024 report gave a detailed schedule of February 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time through March 19, 2024, at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. However, the report’s opening sentence says the test would start February 8. Because the same article conflicts with itself, February 6 is the date in its specific schedule, but the exact start date is not fully settled by that source.

The report attributed the schedule to invitation emails shared by readers. It was not a public registration announcement, and these dates describe a past development test—not an opportunity to sign up now. Read Insider Gaming’s report.
What did participants need?
PC and controller
The report said the test ran on PC but required a controller: an Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 5 controller. Keyboard and mouse were not supported at the time. The report did not name specific controller models or establish compatibility beyond those platform categories.

Invitations and friends
According to the same report, people who received an invitation could invite up to three friends. This, like the hardware information, was reported from private invitation emails rather than independently confirmed public terms.
Could players record or stream the playtest?
No, according to the report: participants were under a nondisclosure agreement that prohibited recording, streaming, and discussing the game’s content. That restriction was described for the 2024 test and should not be read as a statement about the rules for the released game.

Is Skate available now?
Yes. EA’s FAQ says skate. entered Early Access on September 16, 2025, as a free-to-play online skateboarding sandbox set in San Vansterdam. EA also says the game has no offline mode. Those current-release details are separate from the private 2024 playtest’s schedule and conditions. See EA’s skate. FAQ.
