If Sky: Children of the Light closes during a Shard Eruption, first check your platform’s current known-issues notice and make sure the game is updated. An archived official notice says Patch 34.4 addressed crashes reported mainly by PlayStation and iOS players after Patch 34.0; that history may be relevant, but it does not establish the cause of every crash today.
What to check first
- Identify the exact crash pattern. Note your platform and device model, operating-system version, Sky version or build, and whether the game closes at launch, while entering the event, during the eruption, or when leaving it. These details help distinguish a platform-specific known issue from a different problem.
- Check for an update and the current platform notice. Consult the official Patch 34.0 known-issues notice and check the Help Center for current information relevant to your platform. The archived notice records that Patch 34.4 was released for PlayStation and iOS on August 11, 2026 to address the reported crashes. It does not establish whether a later update changed their status, or whether your crash has the same cause.
- Reinstall only after securing account access. The notice says some players reported that reinstalling fixed the issue. Treat that as a reported workaround, not a guaranteed fix. Before uninstalling, link your Sky account to an external service, as the notice advises.
- Contact official support if it continues. Provide the platform, device, OS and game build, the exact event step when the crash occurs, and any error message. A repeatable description is more useful for narrowing down a software issue than guessing at a hardware or accessory fix.
What the known reports do—and do not—show
The Patch 34.0 crash notice
The archived Japanese-language official notice reports crashes affecting some players, mainly on PlayStation and iOS, and records Patch 34.4 for those platforms as the response on August 11, 2026. This is evidence of a specific historical, build-related issue—not proof that all crashes during Shard Eruptions share that cause.
A Shard Eruption timing bug is a different issue
A separate official notice from July 2022 describes eruptions appearing in two locations after a reset and a cadence change intended to resolve that behavior. It concerns event location and timing; it does not identify a cause of game crashes.
Other historical build defects are not a diagnosis
A developer-authored Steam known-issues post also records separate historical problems, including a crash some players could encounter when rapidly switching between Shared Creations or deleting one, and a freezing issue the post said should be addressed by Hotfix 32.9. These reports show that defects can be build-specific, but they do not diagnose a Shard Eruption crash on another build or platform.

If you play on PC
Steam lists these minimum requirements for Windows: Windows 10 64-bit build 1903 or later, 8 GB RAM, 3 GB available storage, a graphics card with at least 2 GB VRAM, and Vulkan 1.2. Its recommended graphics cards are GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580, with Vulkan 1.3. These are Steam’s listed requirements, not a diagnosis or a guarantee against crashes.
If the game meets those requirements and still closes during the event, record the build and crash timing and report the issue through official support rather than assuming a component or generic optimization tool will fix it.
