Yes. Thatgamecompany acknowledged that some Nintendo Switch players were experiencing a startup crash after Sky: Children of the Light version 0.15.5, released November 18, 2021. The company announced a Switch fix on December 2, 2021, and said affected players would receive an in-game inbox message and compensation. This is a historical issue report, not evidence that the same crash is happening now.

What did the publisher acknowledge?

In its official Sky Help Center notice for patch 0.15.5, thatgamecompany reported that some Switch players were encountering a crash on startup. The notice does not give a count or percentage of affected players.

The notice was updated on December 2, 2021 with the statement: “A fix has been released for Switch devices that should resolve the crashing issue on startup.” The company also said players impacted since the patch release would receive an in-game inbox message and compensation.

Was the crash the same as the Nintendo Account login problem?

No. The notice marked a Nintendo Account login issue fixed on November 29, 2021, then explicitly distinguished it from the startup-crash fix announced December 2: “Please note that this fix is different from the login issue with Nintendo Accounts that was resolved on Nov 29th.” They were separate problems with separate reported fixes.

Nintendo Switch 2 System

  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Is the 0.15.5 crash still happening?

The 2021 notice establishes that the publisher acknowledged the issue and later reported a fix; it does not establish that the same bug is currently recurring. The official Sky update feed describes a different Nintendo crash associated with a prop after update 34.0 and says a Switch fix arrived in update 34.2. That later issue is not presented as a continuation of the 0.15.5 startup crash.

What to do if Sky crashes on Switch now

Check the current official Sky update feed and its linked support and Known Issues materials for a report that matches your game version and symptoms. Do not assume that a current crash is the 2021 0.15.5 issue or that its historical fix addresses a newer problem.

Nintendo’s general guidance for stalled software or update downloads covers checking the internet connection, closing running software, checking download progress, and restarting if needed. Those are download troubleshooting steps, not a confirmed remedy for a Sky startup crash; see Nintendo Support’s download guidance only if the problem is a stalled download.
