What Skyrim Together Reborn is—and what “finally out” means
Skyrim Together Reborn is a community-made mod that adds online co-op to Skyrim Special Edition. It is not a standalone multiplayer game or an MMO. The phrase “finally out” refers to its original release in 2022; the mod remains available and has continued to receive updates.

The Nexus listing identifies version 1.8.3 as the current release and gives October 3, 2026, as its last update date. That update addressed NPC duplication in some encounters, sliding objects and NPCs after collisions, a respawn location and a rare spell target-ID bug. It also added a party hint and Swedish translation. The listing records July 8, 2022, as the original upload date. See the Skyrim Together Reborn Nexus listing and changelog.
Recent 1.8.0–1.8.2 notes also cover quest progression and quest-item synchronization, NPC synchronization, compatibility work, crashes and desynchronization. The current FAQ describes version 1.8 as a foundation for further work and the project as open source with ongoing maintenance—more relevant to present status than older FAQ language that described version 1.6 as likely final. Which Skyrim versions and platforms are supported?
The safest documented route is the current Skyrim Special Edition on Steam, using the 1.6.117x runtime. The official getting-started guide requires the latest Special Edition 1.6xxx on Steam; the FAQ specifies Steam Special Edition 1.6.117X. Skyrim Special Edition version 1.5 is not supported. The guide also rules out VR, console, Legendary Edition and Game Pass versions. Check the official getting-started guide.
There is a genuine storefront discrepancy: the Nexus listing says non-pirated Special and Anniversary Editions on Steam or GOG, version 1.6.1170 or later, while the current guide and FAQ specify Steam. GOG support therefore is not settled by the official sources; confirm with the project before relying on that version.

You do not need the paid Anniversary Upgrade. The FAQ says the Special Edition purchase alone is sufficient, and the guide recommends playing without Anniversary Upgrade content for a more stable setup. It also places Creation Club and Anniversary Upgrade content among the additions that are not recommended for the most stable experience.
How many players can join?
The project recommends groups of 2–8 for the best experience. The Together Team’s Nexus description says its focus is a co-op experience for about 2–8 players and that it has tested with more than 30. That larger figure is a project-reported test, not a recommended group size or a guarantee of reliable play with a large party. The official FAQ likewise recommends 2–8 and says there is no hard theoretical limit. The Together Team’s Nexus description and official FAQ provide those figures.

How questing and party progress work
Quest synchronization runs through the party system. The party leader hosts most of the world state; when that leader advances a quest, the other party members’ quests progress automatically. The leader should therefore manage quest interactions, while everyone else supports the encounter. The official playguide explains party and quest behavior.
- Finish the Helgen intro and escape before connecting.
- Create a party and keep the same leader throughout the playthrough.
- Have the leader talk to quest NPCs, trigger quest scenes and loot quest items.
- For quest-heavy play, keep one party per server, enter locations with the leader first, and stay near one another in level and progress.
- Save often, especially before scripted events and quest completion.
Party members can help defeat quest monsters and bosses, clear dungeons and solve puzzles. If progression gets stuck, the playguide describes recovering from an older save or using the leader’s quest debugger; the debugger can skip a quest, so it is a recovery option rather than a routine fix.

Will other mods work with it?
For the most stable experience, the FAQ recommends not adding other mods. Skyrim Together Reborn may load SKSE when it is installed, but the team does not guarantee that other mods will remain stable, interact correctly with its systems or synchronize their features. The FAQ says graphics mods generally work; other compatibility needs to be checked individually. Use the project’s mod compatibility tracker for specific claims.
Compatibility work in the 1.8 changelog is specific, not blanket approval: it includes SSE Engine Fixes and SkyrimSoulsRE support, along with fixes involving particular animations, rendering, quests and NPC synchronization. Those entries do not establish that every mod—or a large existing load order—will work.

What to prepare before starting
- Confirm the game: use Skyrim Special Edition on Steam with the documented 1.6.117x runtime. If you have GOG, seek current project confirmation because official pages differ.
- Launch once through Steam: the setup guide says to launch Skyrim before installing the mod.
- Keep the setup minimal: avoid additional mods for the most stable experience. The guide names Mod Organizer 2 and Vortex as mod-manager options.
- Choose how to connect: join an existing server or host one. Local play requires hosting a server; the client and server have separate official setup instructions in the getting-started guide.
- Plan a party-led run: agree on one leader, stay together and save before major quest events.
What to expect from the experience
The mod makes cooperative exploration and combat possible, but it does not turn Skyrim into a seamless shared-world MMO. The FAQ describes the experience as imperfect and notes that bugs, desynchronization and occasional crashes can occur. Its design works best when the group accepts party-led quest progression, uses a modest setup and treats saves as part of recovery planning.
