Smushi Come Home is a cozy exploration adventure about a tiny mushroom trying to find its way home. Its appeal is unhurried forest exploration, light platforming and puzzles, and friendly encounters—not high-pressure action. If that sounds like your kind of game, the available reviews are encouraging; if you want a long, demanding platformer, the evidence points to a more cautious choice.

What kind of game is Smushi Come Home?

You play as Smushi, a mushroom separated from home, and make your way through forest areas by running, gliding, climbing, and swimming. The publisher describes it as a cozy exploration adventure with light platforming and puzzle solving. Nintendo says you can explore at your own pace, without time limits or game overs. That makes the game deliberately low-pressure, though “light” does not mean every traversal or puzzle will feel effortless to every player.

The forest creatures you meet, a Mycology Journal about real-life mushrooms, and unlockable mushroom-cap skins add character and optional discoveries. The journal is described as an in-game feature, not a separate purchase. Steam also lists achievements and a digital soundtrack add-on.

What do the reviews say?

Steam’s English-language user reviews were Overwhelmingly Positive: 98% of 1,777 reviews when observed on October 8, 2026. Steam’s recent-review label was Very Positive: 100% of 24 reviews at that same point. These are changing Steam user-review snapshots, not critic aggregate scores, so check the live listing for current figures. Steam’s Smushi Come Home page also displays brief critic excerpts: Rock Paper Shotgun called out its relaxed gameplay and educational mushroom content; GameLuster is shown with an 8/10 and NintendoWorldReport with an 8.5/10. Those scores and excerpts are as presented on Steam, not a substitute for the publications’ full reviews.

Player language on Steam includes “cute + cozy atmosphere” and “short game.” Those phrases capture common reactions in the visible reviews, but they are individual reviewers’ descriptions rather than measured qualities.

How long is it, and does the length affect value?

There is no official completion-time estimate in the available listings. One Steam Community reviewer, fancybeets, wrote on August 3, 2023, that the game was “a great way to spend 4 hours”; Steam recorded 3.8 hours for that reviewer. They described progression through three smaller areas and felt the price could seem high for a short game, while preferring something more open-ended. That is one person’s playtime and value judgment—not a typical completion time or a promise about how long your own run will take.

For a purchase decision, consider how much you value a compact, relaxed adventure versus a long campaign. The regional price can vary, and the available sources do not establish current prices across storefronts; check your local store listing before deciding whether the length suits the cost.

Who is it best suited to?

  • Consider it if you want free-paced exploration, gentle platforming, light puzzles, friendly encounters, and a low-pressure tone.
  • Think twice if your priority is a lengthy game, demanding platform challenges, or highly open-ended progression. One reviewer’s short-playtime report and preference for more open progression may be useful context, but neither establishes how every player will experience it.
  • Look at neighboring options such as Lil Gator Game—included in Nintendo’s official “More like this” list—or A Short Hike, which a Steam reviewer used as a genre comparison. These are discovery leads, not evidence of a direct quality comparison; consider how much openness, challenge, and playtime you want before choosing.
