IfSunSets launched on Steam in November 2024 as an Early Access survival RPG from developer POLYMORPH and publisher Smilegate. Steam lists November 4 as its release date; Smilegate’s launch report says the global release took place November 5. As of October 8, 2026, Steam still labels the game Early Access, and POLYMORPH is targeting Version 1.0 by the end of 2026—not announcing a confirmed release date.
When did IfSunSets launch on Steam?
The date depends on which launch announcement you consult. Steam lists IfSunSets as released on November 4, 2024, while Smilegate’s November 6 newsroom report says its global release took place November 5. The two sources do not explain the one-day difference, so neither date should be treated as the single universally applicable launch date.
Smilegate published the game, which was developed by POLYMORPH. The Steam release was an Early Access launch, not a full Version 1.0 release.
What kind of game is IfSunSets?
IfSunSets is a survival RPG built around a day-and-night rhythm. During the day, players explore an island and gather supplies; at night, they prepare for monster attacks and defend their position. The Steam listing also describes combat, base building, resource use, underwater exploration, and online co-op.

The Early Access description presented the initial build as including this core loop, combat and building systems, several regions, monsters, and bosses. POLYMORPH said it would use player feedback through Discord, Steam forums, and its official channels as development continued.
What changed in the 2026 ocean update?
Version 0.7.0 added sea and underwater content
The April 29, 2026 Ocean Content Update (version 0.7.0) expanded the sea and underwater environments with naval combat, ship and crew systems, new islands, and new mid-boss encounters. The update also changed terrain, quests, and balance.

Should returning players start a new character?
POLYMORPH recommended creating a new character to experience the intended progression after those changes. Existing characters could still continue; starting over was a recommendation, not a stated requirement.
Is IfSunSets still in Early Access?
Yes. Steam continues to label IfSunSets as an Early Access game as of October 8, 2026. In an August 30, 2026 developer note, POLYMORPH said the team was “currently targeting its Version 1.0 release by the end of 2026.” That is a development target, not a confirmed release date.

The team said it was working on the ending quest and final Kraken battle while continuing to refine balance, stability, quality of life, and optimization. The Early Access description had initially estimated approximately a year in the program, while noting that the timeline could change; development continued beyond that estimate.
How many copies has IfSunSets sold?
POLYMORPH announced on May 21, 2026, that IfSunSets had surpassed 100,000 copies sold. This is the figure reported by the developer, not a current sales total.

The recommended listing raises the processor and graphics requirements and specifies DirectX 12; it keeps the same 16 GB of RAM and 30 GB of storage as the minimum specification. These are Steam’s published requirements, not performance results from an independent test.
