Sniper Elite: Resistance crashes on PS5 for several possible reasons: outdated software, a damaged installation, a problematic save, online-service problems, or a wider console issue. Follow these fixes from lowest risk to highest impact, and avoid deleting saved data or factory-resetting the PS5 unless official support directs you to do so.
The game is available as a native PS5 release and as a PS4 version playable on PS5. Menu names can vary slightly by PS5 system-software version.

First, identify the failure
A crash usually means the game stops and exits to the PS5 home screen, displays “An error occurred in the application,” or fails to launch. A network disconnect, a temporary freeze, and a PS5 that powers off are different problems and need different checks.

1. Update Sniper Elite: Resistance
An incomplete or outdated game build can cause crashes, particularly if the problem began after an update or affects online features.
- Highlight Sniper Elite: Resistance on the home screen.
- Press Options.
- Select Check for Update.
- Install the update, then restart the game.
Do not rely on an unverified patch number. Rebellion specifically recommends checking that the latest game version is installed: Rebellion’s PlayStation troubleshooting guidance.
2. Update PS5 system software
- Open Settings.
- Choose System.
- Select System Software.
- Open System Software Update and Settings.
- Install any available update and restart the PS5.
Rebellion directs PlayStation players to update the console, and the Store listing warns that the PS5 may need the latest system software.
3. Fully shut down the PS5
Rest Mode suspends a game session; it is not the same as a clean restart. A full shutdown can clear a temporary bad state without touching your saves.
- Press the PS button and open the power menu.
- Select Turn Off PS5.
- Wait until the console lights turn off completely.
- Wait at least 30 seconds, then turn it on again.
If the console recently lost power or crashed, let its storage check finish before launching the game.
4. Check PlayStation Network status
If the crash or failure occurs while signing in, loading online content, joining a session, or entering multiplayer, check the official PlayStation Network status page. If services are degraded, wait for them to recover and test the campaign instead.

A PSN outage can explain an online failure, but it does not automatically explain a crash during an offline campaign mission.

5. Restore licenses
Restore licenses when a digital copy will not launch, purchased content appears locked, or downloadable content is unavailable.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Users and Accounts.
- Select Other.
- Choose Restore Licenses, then Restore.
- Restart the game.
This can repair an ownership or license check. It will not repair damaged game files and is unlikely to fix a repeatable crash inside one mission. Rebellion includes this step in its PlayStation troubleshooting advice.
6. Test offline and isolate online modes
Close the game, temporarily disconnect the PS5 through Settings → Network → Settings, and test an offline campaign activity.
- Offline works: investigate PSN status, account access, network conditions, or multiplayer matchmaking.
- Offline also crashes: focus on the installation, save data, system software, or a game-specific bug.
- Only one session crashes: try a solo session or a different host.
For online play, confirm that the game and console are updated and that your account meets the Store’s requirements. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer, not for the offline single-player campaign: PlayStation Store game page.

7. Clear cache or rebuild the database in Safe Mode
Use Safe Mode only after updates, a full shutdown, and basic network checks have failed.

- Turn off the PS5 completely.
- Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Connect the DualSense with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- Try Clear System Software Cache first. If needed, consider Rebuild Database.
These are maintenance steps, not guaranteed fixes for a damaged save or game bug. Do not choose Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) unless you understand the data-loss consequences and have followed official guidance. Check Sony’s current Safe Mode instructions if the labels differ.
8. Check storage and reinstall the game
Open Settings → Storage and make sure the internal SSD or expansion storage has enough free space. If the game still crashes, delete the game application and reinstall it from your library or disc.
Deleting the application is different from deleting saved data, but back up saves to cloud storage or USB where applicable before making changes. Install the latest patch before testing again.

Do not delete the affected save as an early troubleshooting step. First:
- Try another campaign save or mission.
- Test a new campaign if necessary.
- Note the exact mission, checkpoint, objective, weapon, or interaction before the crash.
- Back up saves before restoring an earlier cloud save.
If only one save fails, it may be damaged or incompatible. If only one mission fails, a mission-specific bug is possible. If every save and mode fails, prioritize the installation, system software, or hardware checks.

If the issue began after an update, confirm the update completed, restart the console, and test both a new and existing save. Do not install unofficial patches or save files.

10. Report the crash
If the problem remains, preserve the evidence and report it rather than repeatedly launching the same broken save.
- Use the PS5 application-error screen’s crash-report option when it appears.
- Include the optional video clip if offered.
- Record the error code, platform version, and whether the copy is digital or disc-based.
- Write down the mission, mode, and action immediately before the failure.
- List the updates, license restoration, Safe Mode steps, and reinstall attempts you completed.
- Submit the details through Rebellion’s crash-reporting process.
Rebellion’s bug-reporting guidance asks for the platform, what happened, where it happened, what you were doing beforehand, and supporting screenshots or video.
Use the symptom to choose your next step

| Crashes at startup | Updates, full shutdown, license restoration, then reinstall. |
| Crashes in one mission | Try another save or mission and report the reproducible trigger. |
| Crashes only online | Check PSN, updates, account access, connection, and PlayStation Plus requirements. |
| Freezes after Rest Mode | Fully shut down and avoid resuming the suspended session. |
| PS5 restarts or powers off | Check storage and ventilation, test another demanding game, and contact PlayStation Support if it continues. |
| Several games crash | Update the PS5, use Safe Mode maintenance, and contact PlayStation Support. |
| Only digital content fails | Restore licenses, verify the purchasing account, and reinstall if necessary. |
Error-code guide
- CE-108255-1 or another application error: treat it as an application crash. Update, fully restart, reinstall if needed, and report the code.
- Network or sign-in code: check PSN status, connection, account access, and licenses.
- Storage or system-software code: prioritize Safe Mode and PlayStation’s official repair guidance.
- No code: photograph the screen or record the behavior and document the exact trigger.
No single PlayStation error code proves one permanent cause; the pattern across this game and other applications matters.
When the PS5 itself may be the problem
A console that powers off, restarts, becomes unusually hot, or displays system warnings needs more caution than a game that simply returns to the dashboard. Check that vents are unobstructed and the console is not enclosed in a poorly ventilated cabinet. Test another demanding game, but stop repeated testing if the behavior continues. Contact PlayStation Support if multiple games or the console itself are affected.
