For the Yen Press English collected comic edition, read Solo Leveling Volumes 1 through 13, then Volume 14 (Side Stories 1) and Volume 15 (Side Stories 2). Start Solo Leveling: Ragnarok after Volume 15, beginning with Ragnarok Vol. 1. That is the complete publisher-listed sequence for the original comic and its sequel; digital episode numbers and editions in other regions may use different numbering.

The correct Solo Leveling reading order

The simplest sequence is the right one for the English Yen Press collected edition:

Yen Press’s catalog lists fifteen volumes for the original English collected comic and identifies the final two as side-story books. It separately lists Ragnarok as the sequel and currently catalogs its comic Volumes 1–3. The numbering in this guide therefore refers specifically to that English collected edition, not to every release format worldwide.

Why the side stories belong before Ragnarok

Volumes 1–13 make up the numbered main run. Volume 14 is not a second edition of an earlier book or an optional appendix: its subtitle is Side Stories 1. Volume 15 is explicitly Side Stories 2. Reading both gives you the publisher’s complete original-comic sequence before you move to the next-generation story.

Yen Press describes Solo Leveling: Ragnarok as the sequel to the original novel and comic. Its premise follows Sung Suho, whose family connection to Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In is established in the material associated with Volume 15. That setup is why beginning Ragnarok immediately after Volume 13 can make the transition feel abrupt: you would be skipping the two books that finish the original collected edition and establish the handoff to the sequel’s central character.

Are the side stories optional?

You can technically understand the broad idea of a sequel without them, but they are not optional if your goal is the full original comic. The publisher numbers them as Volumes 14 and 15, and the sequel follows that completed run. Treat them as the closing section of Solo Leveling, not as bonus material to read only if you have time.

What “volume” means in this guide

“Volume” here means a Yen Press English collected comic volume. A collected edition combines previously released comic chapters into a physical or digital book with its own volume number. Other publishers, languages, and storefronts can package the same material differently. A regional edition may split, combine, or rename books, and a digital service may identify installments by episode rather than by print volume.

  • Use the volume sequence above when buying or borrowing the English Yen Press books.
  • Use a platform’s own episode and season labels when reading digitally.
  • Do not assume an episode number maps directly to a particular print volume unless that platform or publisher supplies an explicit cross-reference.

The available catalog information does not establish a universal chapter-to-volume map or a single sequence that applies identically in every territory. If your edition is not the Yen Press English collection, check its publisher’s table of contents and numbering rather than forcing the English order onto it.

How to read the physical collected edition

Step 1: Start with Volume 1

Begin at Solo Leveling Vol. 1 and continue through the numbered main-story books in ascending order. Do not insert Ragnarok volumes between any of these books; Ragnarok is a separate sequel series.

Step 2: Finish Volumes 1–13 without skipping a number

The first thirteen books are the main numbered run in the Yen Press catalog. If a store listing shows a missing number, locate that volume before moving on. Skipping from Vol. 11 to Vol. 14, for example, means skipping the main-story Volumes 12 and 13.

Step 3: Read Vol. 14, Side Stories 1

After Vol. 13, pick up the book whose cover and listing identify it as Solo Leveling, Vol. 14 (comic): Side Stories 1. Keep the subtitle in mind when searching because a listing that displays only “Vol. 14” can obscure that it is the first side-story collection.

Step 4: Read Vol. 15, Side Stories 2

Follow with Solo Leveling, Vol. 15 (comic): Side Stories 2. Yen Press lists the English edition’s ISBN as 9798400904677 and gives a March 17, 2026 release date. Release dates and stock vary by territory and retailer, so a listing date is not a guarantee that every shop has the book available.

Step 5: Move to Ragnarok Vol. 1

Only after completing Vol. 15 should you begin Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. Start at its Vol. 1 and then proceed through the sequel’s own numbering. Yen Press catalogs at least Volumes 1–3, which are separate from the fifteen original-series volumes.

Digital reading: Tapas episode order versus print order

Tapas marks its original Solo Leveling comic as completed and distinguishes the regular run from special episodes. That status supports reading the entire original digital series before opening the sequel. It does not, however, provide a chapter-to-print-volume crosswalk in the information available here.

For a digital reader, the safest workflow is:

  1. Open the completed original Solo Leveling series on your platform.
  2. Read its main episodes in the platform’s displayed order.
  3. Read any special episodes included with that original listing before switching series, unless the platform itself labels an item as unrelated promotional material.
  4. Open the separate Solo Leveling: Ragnarok listing only after the original listing is complete.

Do not convert Tapas episode numbers into Yen Press volume numbers by guesswork. Episode totals, bonus installments, and regional release schedules can change how a digital list is organized even when the underlying story is the same.

Where Ragnarok stands digitally

The Tapas listing for Solo Leveling: Ragnarok describes Sung Suho’s story and shows 69 episodes. A notice dated January 31, 2026, says that season 2 had ended and that the comic would take a hiatus before returning with season 3. The notice does not give a return date.

That means the sequel’s digital status should be described as “on hiatus after season 2” based on that notice, not as canceled and not as scheduled to return on a particular day. Episode counts are platform catalog details; they should not be treated as a substitute for the Yen Press print-volume count or as proof that 69 episodes equal a fixed number of collected books.

Should you wait for season 3?

No waiting is required to follow the intended reading order. You can complete the original comic and read whatever Ragnarok episodes or collected volumes are available. If you reach the end of the currently posted digital season, expect a pause until the platform announces a return. Because the January 31, 2026 notice supplies no date, any precise prediction would be speculation.

Common ordering mistakes

Starting Ragnarok after Volume 13

This skips both side-story collections. Volume 14 and Volume 15 are part of the original Yen Press sequence, even though their subtitles identify them as side stories.

Reading the side stories before the main run

The side-story labels do not make Volumes 14 and 15 prequels. Their placement at the end of the catalog is the clearest guide: read Volumes 1–13 first, then the two side-story books.

Mixing digital episodes with print numbers

A service that lists episodes and special episodes is using a different index from a publisher listing collected volumes. Without an official crosswalk, keep the two systems separate.

Assuming every country has the same Volume 15 date

The March 17, 2026 date is the English Yen Press listing. Translation schedules, local distributors, and retailer stock can produce different dates elsewhere.

Confusing sequel volumes with original volumes

Ragnarok starts its own Volume 1. “Ragnarok Vol. 1” is not a sixteenth volume of the original comic; it is the first collected book in the sequel series.

A practical checklist before you start

  • Confirm that your books are the Yen Press English collected edition if you are using the 1–15 sequence in this article.
  • Check that Volumes 1–13 are present before buying the side stories.
  • Look for the exact subtitles “Side Stories 1” and “Side Stories 2” on Volumes 14 and 15.
  • Verify the ISBN 9798400904677 when identifying the English Vol. 15 listing.
  • After Vol. 15, switch to the separate Solo Leveling: Ragnarok series and begin at its Vol. 1.
  • On digital services, follow the platform’s episode order and do not infer a print-volume equivalent from episode numbers alone.

Bottom line for first-time readers

Read the Yen Press English collection straight through: Volumes 1–13, then Side Stories 1 (Vol. 14), then Side Stories 2 (Vol. 15). Begin Solo Leveling: Ragnarok afterward, starting at its Vol. 1. Digital readers should finish the completed original Tapas listing before opening the sequel, while remembering that Ragnarok was listed as paused after season 2 in the January 31, 2026 notice and had no announced return date in that notice.
