Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First separate the symptom: a PS5 with no indicator light has a power or startup problem; a console that lights up but shows no picture may have a display-output problem; a working menu with a network error needs the connectivity path. Note the indicator behavior and copy any error code exactly before changing settings. Those details determine which PlayStation diagnostic applies.
Identify which problem you actually have
“Won’t turn on” can describe several different states. A completely dark console, a brief light followed by shutdown, and a PS5 that starts but produces a blank screen do not have the same remedy. Likewise, an internet failure can be caused by PSN service availability, your router, the Wi‑Fi link, or the console’s saved network configuration.

| What you observe | Use this branch | First evidence to record |
|---|---|---|
| No light or no response when you press power | Power and startup checks | Whether the indicator stays dark, lights briefly, blinks, or turns off |
| The PS5 appears to start, but the TV shows no image | Display-output and Safe Mode checks | Whether the console remains powered and whether the TV reports “no signal” |
| The PS5 reaches its menus but cannot go online | Network troubleshooting | The complete on-screen error code and whether other devices have internet access |
Do not treat a blank screen as proof that the console has no power. If the indicator is on, follow the display route before disconnecting cables or attempting recovery.
If your PS5 will not turn on
Check the outlet, cable and indicator
- Confirm the wall outlet works by testing it with another device, then make sure the PS5 power cable is firmly seated at both ends.
- Press the power button once and watch the indicator. Note a brief light, a blinking light, an immediate shutdown, or no light at all. PlayStation’s indicator guide maps these states to different conditions.
- Use PlayStation’s power-issues diagnostic rather than opening the console or replacing internal parts. A persistent hardware fault should be routed to PlayStation Repairs.
Perform the indicator guide’s power cycle
For the power-off behavior covered by PlayStation’s indicator instructions, disconnect the PS5 from power for three minutes. Reconnect it and try to start it again. This is a specific reset procedure for that indicator condition, not a universal repair for every hardware failure. If the console still gives no response, stop repeating the cycle and use the official repair diagnostic.

If the PS5 turns on but the screen is blank
A powered console with no picture is a display-output problem until proven otherwise. Check that the TV is on the correct HDMI input and that the HDMI connection is secure. If the PS5 remains powered but the picture does not return, use Safe Mode’s video tools rather than selecting a destructive reset.
Open Safe Mode and choose a video option
- Turn the PS5 completely off. If it is on, hold the power button until it shuts down.
- Press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep, which occurs about seven seconds after the first beep.
- Connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB cable and press the controller’s PS button.
- From Safe Mode, use the Change Video Output options. PlayStation identifies these settings as tools for troubleshooting blank-screen output.
Do not assume a display problem is fixed merely because Safe Mode appears. If normal startup still produces no image, continue with PlayStation’s display and repair guidance instead of repeatedly changing unrelated settings.
When startup shows SU-101337-5 or behaves abnormally
For startup error SU-101337-5, PlayStation instructs you to unplug the console for five minutes and try again. If the abnormal startup continues, follow the official Safe Mode system-software reinstallation instructions. If Safe Mode will not start or the issue remains after the instructed recovery, the console may need repair.

The five-minute disconnection for this code is different from the three-minute power cycle used for the indicator condition described earlier. Match the waiting period to the code or indicator behavior you actually see.
Use Safe Mode without losing saved data
Safe Mode provides recovery functions for startup, video output and system software, but the options do not have equal consequences. PlayStation warns: “Some Safe Mode options will result in the loss of data.” Back up saved data whenever the console can still access it and before selecting any reset, initialization or reinstallation option.
Safe Mode entry sequence
- Power the PS5 off completely.
- Hold the power button and release it after the second beep, roughly seven seconds after the first beep.
- Connect the controller by USB and press PS when prompted.
Choose the least destructive action first
- For a blank screen, start with Change Video Output.
- For a startup code, follow the specific PlayStation instruction for that code before attempting a reinstall.
- Read the description of every reset or system-software option. A factory-style reset or reinstallation can remove local data, so it is not a first-line response to an ordinary network failure.
If you cannot back up because the PS5 will not remain operational, understand that proceeding with a destructive option may make local saves unrecoverable. When Safe Mode itself cannot launch, use PlayStation Repairs rather than guessing at a hardware replacement.

If your PS5 will not connect to the internet
Check PSN before changing the console
Record the exact network error, then check PlayStation Network status for an outage or maintenance. A service-side failure can prevent sign-in even when your console, router and internet connection are working. If the status page reports a problem, retry after service is restored instead of repeatedly reconfiguring the PS5.
Restart the console and test a wired connection
- Restart the PS5 normally.
- If you have an Ethernet cable available, temporarily connect the console directly to the router and run the connection test again.
- Compare the result with Wi‑Fi. If Ethernet works while Wi‑Fi fails, the comparison points to the wireless link or placement; it does not identify a single defective component.
An Ethernet cable is a diagnostic aid, not a guaranteed permanent fix. Use one you already have if possible; the evidence does not establish a required cable category, length, router purchase or replacement power supply.
Improve the Wi‑Fi path
- Move the PS5 closer to the router.
- Remove obstructions and likely sources of interference between the two devices.
- Retry the connection after the move and record whether the result changes.
These low-cost changes test the wireless path without erasing saved settings. A failed Wi‑Fi attempt does not by itself prove that the PS5’s wireless hardware is defective.

Restart the router and modem correctly
Power off the router and modem, wait at least five minutes, then restart them. PlayStation’s guidance for the relevant network errors specifies this waiting period. Allow the network equipment to finish reconnecting before testing the PS5 again.
Reconfigure network settings only after the basic tests
If PSN is available, restarts have completed and Wi‑Fi or Ethernet still fails, reconfigure the PS5’s network connection using the console’s network setup screens. Check the router manufacturer’s firmware guidance and contact your internet service provider when their equipment or service is implicated.
Static IP addresses, custom DNS values and port changes are advanced measures, not routine first steps. Use them only when the exact PlayStation error instructions call for them and you or your network administrator can document the existing configuration.

What to do for WS-116414-7
For WS-116414-7, PlayStation advises checking PSN status, restarting the PS5, restarting the router after waiting five minutes, and trying again later. The “try again later” part matters when the official error guidance says the connection may be temporarily busy or service availability is affected. Do not interpret this code alone as proof that the console needs repair.
Match other codes to the official error index
PlayStation publishes an error-code index with separate instructions for startup, sign-in and network failures. Search the index using the complete code, including every letter, number and hyphen. Two codes that both contain “network” can require different actions, and a service-availability message should not be treated like a failed Wi‑Fi radio.
Follow the sequence on the article for your exact code. If it directs you to check status or wait, do that before resetting the console. If it directs you to Safe Mode, read the data-loss warning before selecting an option.

| Test | What it bypasses or changes | How to interpret the result |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet connection to the router | Bypasses the PS5-to-router wireless link | Success on Ethernet with Wi‑Fi failure points toward wireless conditions or placement, but does not prove a specific failed part |
| Move the PS5 nearer to the router | Reduces distance and possible obstruction | Improvement supports a weak or interfered wireless path |
| Restart modem and router for at least five minutes | Rebuilds the home network connection | Useful when the router or service session is stalled; it does not repair an outage at PSN |
| Check PSN status | Tests the external service dependency | An outage or maintenance window means local console changes may not help until service returns |
When to stop troubleshooting and request repair
Use PlayStation Repairs for a persistent no-power condition, repeated abnormal startup, a Safe Mode failure, or a fault that remains after the official code-specific steps. Repair is also the appropriate boundary when the console cannot complete the required recovery process. Do not open the PS5, substitute an unverified power supply, or buy replacement parts based only on a symptom.
For internet failures, escalate to your router vendor or ISP when other devices also lose service, router firmware or line service is implicated, or the exact PlayStation guidance asks you to involve the network administrator. Escalate to PlayStation when the console alone fails on a known-good network after status checks, restarts, wired testing and the prescribed network reconfiguration.
Quick Recap
A compact decision checklist
- No indicator: check outlet and cable, record indicator behavior, apply the applicable indicator power cycle, then use PlayStation’s power diagnostic.
- Indicator on but no picture: treat it as display output, enter Safe Mode and use Change Video Output.
- SU-101337-5: unplug for five minutes, retry, then follow the official Safe Mode reinstall path if instructed.
- Network error: copy the complete code, check PSN status, restart the PS5, test Ethernet, improve Wi‑Fi placement, and restart the router/modem for at least five minutes.
- Any Safe Mode reset or reinstall: back up first when possible and read the data-loss warning.
- Persistent failure: use PlayStation Repairs or the appropriate network provider support rather than speculative hardware replacement.
