Recommended Something New rolls
Something New is a Stasis 120 hand cannon. Bungie identified the returning Solstice weapon as a 120 hand cannon that can roll Precision Instrument in its August 8, 2024 announcement; GameSpot’s guide provides separate perk recommendations for PvP and PvE.

PvP roll
- Barrel: Smallbore (+7 Stability, +7 Range)
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds (+10 Range)
- First trait: Snapshot Sights or Rapid Hit
- Second trait: Precision Instrument or Explosive Payload
This setup leans into range and consistency in duels. Snapshot Sights improves aim-down-sights speed. Rapid Hit temporarily boosts stability and reload speed after rapid precision hits. Precision Instrument increases precision damage after sustained damage, while Explosive Payload adds an area-of-effect detonation on impact. GameSpot also favors the Nadir Focus origin trait over Dream Work for PvP.
PvE roll
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling (+5 Stability, +5 Range, +5 Handling)
- Magazine: Tactical Mag (+10 Reload Speed, +5 Stability, +1 Magazine Size)
- First trait: Rapid Hit or Demolitionist
- Second trait: Headstone or Explosive Payload
- Masterwork: Reload Speed or Range
Rapid Hit is the broadly useful option for precision-hit reload and stability gains. Demolitionist suits grenade-focused builds: weapon kills grant grenade energy, and activating the grenade ability reloads the weapon from reserves. Headstone creates a Stasis crystal on precision final blows, making it the Stasis-synergy choice; Explosive Payload instead adds area damage.

Which perks should you choose?
There is no single combination in GameSpot’s guide that is presented as best for every activity. Choose based on what you want the hand cannon to contribute:
- For PvP range: use Accurized Rounds, then choose between Precision Instrument for precision damage or Explosive Payload for its impact detonation.
- For PvP handling: Snapshot Sights offers faster aiming; choose Rapid Hit if you expect to land rapid precision hits and value its stability and reload benefits.
- For grenade-focused PvE: Demolitionist supports grenade ability use and refreshes the weapon from reserves when you activate the ability.
- For Stasis-focused PvE: Headstone gives precision final blows a crystal-creating effect.
- For broader PvE utility: Rapid Hit and Explosive Payload are alternatives when you do not specifically want grenade support or Headstone’s Stasis interaction.
How players farmed it during Solstice 2024
The acquisition advice below is historical. GameSpot’s 2024 guide described Bonfire Bash as the best route for additional rolls, with Solstice bounties, packages, and event-card Triumphs as less reliable sources. Bungie’s August 22, 2024 event update said one week remained and set the Solstice deadline at the start of maintenance on August 27, 2024.

Those dates describe the 2024 event, not a current drop source. Bungie’s general Solstice help page explains event rewards such as Solstice Alloy and the Solstice Keepsake, but does not confirm that Something New is currently available. These sources do not establish whether a later reissue has brought the weapon back.
