Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is bringing Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf—characters created for the Sonic comics—into the game. The “series first” is specifically their first appearance in a console title, according to reporting that notes they had appeared in mobile games before.
What IDW confirmed
In an interview published by AIPT on February 18, 2026, IDW’s “Sonic Editorial” said: “On the games side, we’re excited to have Tangle and Whisper, two comic original characters, appear in the Sonic Racing: Crossworlds game!” Read the AIPT interview.

What “series first” means
Nintendo Wire’s November 11, 2025 report describes this as Tangle and Whisper’s first appearance in a console title, while noting earlier appearances in mobile games. That distinction matters: CrossWorlds is not being described as their first video-game appearance overall. Read Nintendo Wire’s report.
