At launch, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds had 23 Sonic-universe racers, according to SEGA. Its roster has since expanded through free updates and paid crossover packs, while some characters are tied to a particular edition or a launch-period bonus. This guide separates confirmed names by how they are accessed; it is not an exhaustive current roster, because SEGA’s official roster page shows some names visually rather than in its accessible text.
Launch roster: 23 Sonic-universe characters
SEGA’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement said the base game offered 23 characters from the Sonic universe. That is the launch-day count, not a current total for the expanded game. SEGA’s official racer page labels a “Main Game Racers” section, but its accessible text does not expose the full set of names. For that reason, the launch roster is identified here by its confirmed count rather than an unverified name-by-name list. SEGA’s launch announcement and official racer page.

Edition-specific and promotional characters
Sonic Prime trio: Nine, Rusty, and Dread
Nine, Rusty, and Dread are Sonic Prime characters included with the Digital Deluxe Edition’s Season Pass, according to SEGA’s product and launch materials. Check the edition’s current contents before buying: a base-game purchase should not be assumed to include Season Pass content. SEGA product page.
Werehog
SEGA described Werehog as a digital pre-order bonus and a physical early-purchase bonus at launch. That wording is historical, not evidence of a currently available offer: present availability may depend on edition, retailer, date, and region. Confirm the current listing’s terms before purchasing. What to check before buying
- Separate base-game and add-on content. The 23-character figure applies to launch-day Sonic-universe racers; it does not include a verified count of later free updates or paid collaborations.
- Check the edition and platform. SEGA lists physical and digital platform availability on its product page. It also states that the Nintendo Switch 2 physical edition became available March 26, 2026. SEGA product page.
- Do not assume a physical copy includes the Season Pass. SEGA says the pass and collaboration DLC can be bought separately; verify the exact contents of the edition or bundle being offered. SEGA product page.
- Recheck the live roster for a complete current list. SEGA’s racer page separates main-game racers, free post-launch racers, Season Pass collaborations, Sonic Prime racers, and bonuses, but its text view does not expose every name. Official racer page.
