No—Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is not releasing on Switch 2 next month. As of October 8, 2026, the digital Nintendo Switch 2 edition has been available since December 4, 2025, and SEGA says its physical edition launched March 26, 2026. Here’s what changed between editions and how to choose the right one.
When did Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds release on Switch 2?
SEGA announced the digital Switch 2 edition for December 4, 2025, alongside an Upgrade Pack for owners of the Nintendo Switch version. The physical Switch 2 edition followed on March 26, 2026. The original game launched September 25, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch; its Steam and Epic Games Store release was listed as September 26, 2025. SEGA’s physical-edition announcement and digital-edition announcement set out the Switch 2 dates.

Which Switch 2 version should you get?

Nintendo confirms that the original Switch game is compatible with Switch 2, but says it does not include the enhanced functionality without the Upgrade Pack. The pack is an upgrade for owners, not a standalone copy of the base game. See Nintendo’s US Upgrade Pack listing. What performance modes does SEGA list?
SEGA’s November 7, 2025 Switch 2 FAQ publishes these specifications. They are publisher-listed modes, not independent performance-test results.

What kind of racing game is it?
Travel Rings move racers from the opening course into a CrossWorld, changing the course during the race; the final lap returns to the original course. SEGA describes races as three laps, with different twists and opportunities across them. The launch announcement also described crossplay and online options including 12-player World Match, Festival events, and Time Trial. Details are in SEGA’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement.

What was included at launch?
SEGA’s September 2025 launch announcement described 23 Sonic-universe characters at launch, more than 70 gadgets, and more than 70,000 possible machine combinations. These are the publisher’s launch figures, not a verified current roster or independently audited count; additional guest racers were announced for free updates or premium DLC.
SEGA described the Digital Deluxe Edition as including the base game and Season Pass. The pass was announced to include Nine, Rusty Rose, and Dread from Sonic Prime, with further crossover content planned. Content and release timing can change, so check the current edition details before buying. The physical Switch 2 launch announcement also said the edition included a download code for the Werehog Pack as an early-purchase bonus; it does not establish that the bonus remains available in every region or retailer listing.
