Its later launch notice confirms that date for consoles; players on Steam and the Epic Games Store got the PC versions on September 26, 2025. SEGA’s 2025 announcement listed PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Nintendo Switch 2 was described at the time as coming later, with a paid upgrade path planned for owners of the Switch version. These were announcement details, not a statement about present-day regional listings or availability.
What is CrossWorlds about?
The game’s central mechanic is the Travel Ring: racers pass through one into another world, altering the course mid-race. SEGA’s launch description lays out a three-lap structure: racers begin on the original course, cross into a different world for the middle lap—where gates and Frenzy events can change the action—and return to the original course for the final lap.

Racers, vehicles and online play
At launch, SEGA described a 23-character Sonic-universe roster, vehicle customization, more than 70 gadgets and more than 70,000 possible machine combinations. Those figures describe the launch offering, not a current roster or total after subsequent content updates. The game also supports online cross-play across supported platforms. SEGA’s launch announcement says World Match supports 12 players, alongside online Festival events and Time Trial. Local play is listed for one to four players; Nintendo Switch wireless play supports up to eight. Check current official platform information for details that depend on a particular system.
What happened after launch?
SEGA reported on October 23, 2025 that the game had sold more than one million units worldwide, counting physical units and digital downloads across platforms. That is a dated milestone, not a current sales total. Content continued to arrive after launch: SEGA announced a free AXEL update for August 26, 2026, and said an internet connection is required to claim add-ons. What did SEGA announce at Summer Game Fest?
The June 6, 2025 reveal said the game would release physically and digitally on September 25 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and noted that physical Nintendo Switch preorders were available. SEGA also described online cross-play and announced a Digital Deluxe Edition with the base game and Season Pass.
