Sony’s PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection brought the original PlayStation’s gray color scheme to PS5 hardware, including limited-edition PS5 Pro and PS5 Digital Edition bundles. The collection launched on November 21, 2024; Sony announced that the PS5 Pro bundle would be limited to 12,300 numbered units. Both console bundles were disc-less, with the PS5 Disc Drive sold separately.
Why the anniversary PS5 is gray
Sony said the collection’s design takes inspiration from the original PlayStation, which launched on December 3, 1994. The gray finish and colored PlayStation button accents translate that console’s look to newer hardware. Sony described the edition as a tribute to three decades of PlayStation gaming.
The collection was not limited to consoles: Sony also announced anniversary versions of PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, and DualSense. Those were separate products, not components of either console bundle.
What came in the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle
Sony’s bundle combined a PS5 Pro with matching accessories and small collector items. It included:

The bundle did not include a disc drive. Sony said the drive was sold separately. The announcement also specified Wi-Fi 7 in territories that support the standard.
Sony announced a run of 12,300 PS5 Pro bundles. That is the announced production quantity, not a statement about how many remain available or what one is worth on the resale market.

How the two anniversary console bundles differed
| Bundle | Console and storage | Notable included items | Disc drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle | PS5 Pro; 2TB SSD | DualSense, DualSense Edge, charging station, vertical stand, disc-drive cover, and collector items | Sold separately |
| PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle | PS5 Digital Edition; 1TB SSD | Matching DualSense, vertical stand, disc-drive cover, and a similar set of collector items | Sold separately |
The Pro bundle added a DualSense Edge and charging station and had twice the announced SSD capacity. Neither bundle included the optional drive, so buyers who wanted to play disc-based games needed to acquire it separately.
What the PS5 Pro upgrade meant
The anniversary bundle used the PS5 Pro, which Sony had announced on September 10, 2024. Sony said the Pro had 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the then-current PS5, enabling up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay. These are Sony’s manufacturer-stated comparisons, not independent benchmark results.

Sony also highlighted enhanced ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, its machine-learning-based upscaling technology. The company cautioned that enhanced features apply to selected PS5 games and vary by game; those claims should not be read as a uniform performance increase in every title. Sony also said PS5 Pro Game Boost could stabilize or improve performance across more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, depending on support and the individual game.
Release and preorder dates
Sony announced November 21, 2024 as the collection’s release date. Preorders for selected products were scheduled to begin September 26, 2024 through direct.playstation.com in the listed markets, or through participating retailers where the direct store was unavailable. Retailer timing varied by product: Sony, for example, said retailer preorders for the Digital Edition bundle would begin October 10, 2024. These dates describe the original launch arrangements, not current stock or sales status.
