You can play the PC versions of four named PlayStation single-player games without signing in to PlayStation Network (PSN): Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Sony announced the change on January 29, 2025. Signing in is optional, but it unlocks certain game-specific rewards and account features.
Which four games no longer require PSN sign-in on PC?
Sony’s January 29, 2025 announcement covers these PC titles:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- God of War Ragnarök
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Sony’s Asad Qizilbash, SVP and Head of Publishing, Studio Business Group, said: “An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC.” The policy applies to the four named games; it is not a promise that PSN is optional for every PlayStation game on PC. What do you get by linking a PlayStation account?
Signing in is not necessary to play these games, but Sony lists optional rewards for players who connect a PSN account:

Sony also identifies trophies and friend management among the benefits available to players who opt in. These are account features, not prerequisites for playing the four games. The announcement describes the rewards.
Does this change the PSN rule for every PlayStation PC game?
No. Sony’s current PC Games FAQ says players currently do not need a PSN account to enjoy PlayStation Studios games on PC, but that select titles require one; it directs players to each product’s information for details. Sony’s PC sign-in support page likewise notes that account sign-in or linking requirements can vary by game and feature. Check the specific game’s product information rather than assuming the four-game policy applies across the catalog.

Is a Steam account still needed?
Yes, for a game purchased or played through Steam, Steam remains a separate platform account. Sony’s FAQ also says a Steam account is needed to redeem a voucher code. A Steam account and a PlayStation Network account are not interchangeable: the announcement makes PSN sign-in optional for the four named games, not Steam access unnecessary.

No. Sony describes PC and console editions as separate products. Owning one does not grant the other, and this PC sign-in policy does not change account requirements for console editions. Consult the listing for the edition you intend to play; Sony explains the distinction in its PC Games FAQ.
