It is a proposed interaction in patent documents—not confirmation that Sony, PlayStation, a game, or a streaming service offers the feature.
How the proposed viewer cursor would work
The patent describes two devices with different roles. One runs the game and receives information about its current state; the other is used by someone watching the livestream. That viewer would not control the game character. Instead, a cursor command sent from the viewing device could produce an output on the player’s display.

The patent description summarizes the idea this way: “Game-specific screen share features can be provided to viewers of a video game livestream.” This is language from the patent, not a public statement by a named Sony representative.
A cursor that responds to the game
The cursor shown to the player could change appearance as the game context changes. The description also gives an example in which a viewer highlights an in-game object without displaying the pointer’s digital trace. These are possible embodiments in the document, not a confirmed feature list for a released service.

Reactions and viewer permissions
Other described options include viewer reactions, including sentiment-based responses, and rotating permission to send cursor commands based on previous viewer input. The patent does not establish how these options would be combined in a product or what moderation controls would be used.
Does the patent mean this is coming to PlayStation?
No. A patent describes claimed inventions and possible embodiments; by itself, it does not show that an idea has been implemented or will be released. The patent records cited here do not confirm a launch, current availability, support by a particular game, or integration with a streaming service.

The US Patent and Trademark Office’s week 40, 2026 Official Gazette entry, dated October 6, 2026, lists Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. and US12752199B2, titled “Adaptive screen share pointer and reactions during gameplay.” The European patent record identifies an application filed on October 24, 2024, and published as EP4545159A1 on April 30, 2025. Those dates relate to specific records in different jurisdictions; they should not be treated as one filing date or as proof of a product release.

What the patent does—and does not—establish
- Described: a livestream viewer could send cursor commands from a separate device while not controlling the player’s character.
- Described: the player’s display could show a cursor or related highlighting, with the cursor’s appearance adapting to game context.
- Also described: optional viewer reactions and possible rotation of cursor-command permission among viewers.
- Not established: that Sony has built the system, that it is coming to PlayStation, or that any game or streaming platform supports it now.
The records do not identify a required retail peripheral. The concept is software-mediated interaction between a viewing device and a game-playing device, so the patent is not evidence that viewers or streamers need to buy a particular accessory.
