Sony’s April 2025 PS5 price increase took effect on April 14, 2025, but those prices are no longer the latest European figures: Sony announced another increase, effective April 2, 2026. The 2025 changes raised the PS5 Digital Edition price in Europe and the UK, while Sony listed higher prices for both standard PS5 editions in Australia and New Zealand. The 2026 announcement gives new European prices but does not state current Australian or New Zealand prices.
What changed in Sony’s April 2025 announcement?
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the regional price changes on April 13, 2025, with the new recommended retail prices (RRPs) effective April 14. The figures below are the RRPs Sony announced then—not current offers or a complete statement of today’s local prices.
| Market | PS5 Digital Edition | Standard PS5 with disc drive |
|---|---|---|
| Europe | €499.99 | No price change announced |
| United Kingdom | £429.99 | No price change announced |
| Australia | AUD $749.95 | AUD $829.95 |
| New Zealand | NZD $859.95 | NZD $949.95 |
These regional figures and the April 14, 2025 effective date come from Sony’s April 13, 2025 announcement. Sony also said PS5 Pro prices would not change as part of that announcement.
What are the latest European PS5 prices?
Sony announced a later global price change on March 27, 2026, effective April 2, 2026. For Europe, its announced console RRPs are:
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)

These are the European prices listed in Sony’s March 27, 2026 announcement. They supersede the 2025 European figures as the later announced prices; retailer offers may differ.
How much is the PS5 in Australia and New Zealand now?
Sony’s 2026 announcement does not list Australian or New Zealand PS5 prices. It directs customers in territories outside the listed European prices to check local retailers or direct.playstation.com where available. The AUD and NZD amounts in the 2025 table are historical RRPs, so they should not be presented as current prices. Check Sony’s local sales channel or retailers for an up-to-date amount.

Why did Sony raise prices?
For the 2025 increase, Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Global Marketing, cited “a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.” In its 2026 announcement, Sony referred to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Neither announcement quantified those pressures, so they do not establish a specific inflation, exchange-rate or manufacturing-cost figure behind the changes.
