What was the PS5 release date?
Sony announced a staggered launch schedule rather than one global release day:
- November 12, 2020: United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea.
- November 19, 2020: Europe and additional regions, according to the announced schedule.
The November 19 date should be understood as Sony’s schedule for Europe and additional regions, not as confirmation that every country launched on that exact day. Sony published the dates alongside the prices in its PlayStation.Blog announcement.

What distinguished the launch editions?
The distinction established in Sony’s launch announcement was the disc drive: the standard PS5 came with an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, while PS5 Digital Edition did not. That configuration difference corresponded to a $100 gap between their U.S. launch MSRPs.
Sony’s November 9, 2020 PS5 FAQ also confirmed the U.S. suggested prices and launch dates.
