Yes: Resident Evil Requiem was the first game Sony named for its upgraded PSSR upscaler on PS5 Pro. Sony announced the update on February 27, 2026—the game’s release date—and a March system update added an option to enhance image quality in PS5 Pro games that support PSSR. The setting is not a universal upgrade for every PS5 game, and results vary by title.
What PSSR does on PS5 Pro
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is Sony’s AI upscaling library for PS5 Pro. Lead Architect Mark Cerny said it analyzes game images pixel by pixel as it upscales them. Sony reported that PSSR had been used to boost the effective resolution of more than 50 PS5 Pro titles as of its February 27, 2026 announcement; that is Sony’s title count, not an independent measurement of the upgraded version’s results. Why Resident Evil Requiem is the first game to use the upgrade
Sony identified Resident Evil Requiem as the first title to use the updated PSSR. Capcom’s release announcement lists PlayStation 5 among the platforms and February 27, 2026 as the release date. Capcom’s announcement
Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin, Senior Manager in its Engine Development Support Section, said the upgraded PSSR helped process intricate details and textures that are traditionally difficult to upscale. That is the developer’s description of its work on Requiem, not an independent image-quality test. Sony’s official sources do not provide controlled measurements of the upgrade’s effect on image quality or frame rate in the game, so no specific resolution or performance gain can be stated.

What changed, and what the March setting does
Sony said the new algorithm and neural network stem from Project Amethyst, its partnership with AMD, and that the PS5 Pro implementation received a further six months of refinement. This describes related co-developed technology; Sony did not say that the upgraded PSSR is simply AMD FSR 4 under another name. Sony’s explanation of the upgrade
On March 16, 2026, Sony announced that a PS5 system software update integrating the upgrade had begun a phased rollout. The update added an “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” setting for PS5 Pro games that already support PSSR. Sony said results vary by game and advised players to turn the option off if unexpected visual effects occur. Sony’s rollout and supported-title information
Which other PS5 Pro games can use upgraded PSSR?
The setting applies to games that support PSSR; it does not add PSSR to every PS5 game. Sony’s March examples included Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2, alongside Resident Evil Requiem, and it said more games were adopting the technology or had patches planned. Those examples are not a promise that every current or future PS5 Pro title supports the upgraded version.
Support and results are game-specific. Sony’s announcement does not establish that every title using PSSR has adopted the updated implementation, so check the individual game’s announcements or update notes rather than assuming compatibility from the console alone.

How to decide whether to enable the image-quality option
If the setting is available for a supported PS5 Pro game, compare the game with it enabled and disabled in the mode you actually play. Look closely at fine detail and clarity, then watch moving scenes for flicker, instability, or other unexpected effects. Fidelity and performance modes may behave differently, so judge the mode you intend to use rather than assuming one setting will improve every presentation.
If you notice visual effects you do not like, switch “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” off. Sony explicitly allows players to disable it, and cautions that results vary by title.
QSSR on base PS5 is a separate technology tier
In an October 1, 2026 announcement, Sony introduced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) as a separate performance tier of AI upscaling for base PS5. Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first QSSR titles, while describing PSSR as the higher tier on PS5 Pro. QSSR should not be confused with the PS5 Pro PSSR upgrade or treated as a feature that makes base PS5 games compatible with PSSR. Sony’s QSSR announcement
